2 carbs (1 net carb). Kind of hard to believe, but I decided to give them a try as I (pre-keto) used to love Strawberry Nesquik. They’re a little expensive ($6 for 4 at Walmart), but soo good, honestly better than Nesquik. I’ve been steadily losing even though I drink three of them every day with my meals. I was surprised because most Atkins things cause me to stall.
Has anyone ever tried the Atkins Strawberry shakes? So good!
Welcome to the forum! Although Atkins put his name on these things, I would hardly call it food, and would not advise anyone to eat it.
Sunflower oil and soy protein are two of the prominent ingredients. With that being said, I’d take a dairy, sugar-laden strawberry shake made from real food any day, even with the sugar, before I’d touch this. Ultra-processed and hyper-palatable foods are pretty much one of the main causes of the worldwide obesity problem.
I personally avoid frankenfood…and opt for real food options. But if you like it and it isn’t causing issues yet enjoy.
I am not an Atkins follower, however, i do love the chocolate shakes when I need something quick and I also like some of the chocolate candies they have, delicious but only eat when i really want chocolate
I’ve keep some of the candies/snacks around (in baby’s diaper bag) as a quick snack should I need one.
If I’m gonna drink my calories, I’ll do it in the form of tequila thanks very much!
Just wondering if a person might not be able to make their own, maybe starting with almond milk or coconut milk?
The thing that got me to wondering was, over the holidays, I made a keto eggnog out of coconut milk. The coconut milk was cheap, as was a little cinnamon. I had the sweetener (erythritol and stevia, I think). And I remember of heating it to pasteurize the eggs I put in it, which I think was basically to give it that nice thick texture.
For something strawberry, you’d need something for strawberry flavor. Purree’d strawberries might taste a little watered down in flavor, not sure if that could be intensified somehow, maybe roasting the strawberries. ?? And making it a little thicker could probably happen in several different ways but at least you’d know what was in it. Heavy whipping cream would be totally awesome for flavor and texture but for me, I could drink 3 or 4 day’s worth of energy in just a few minutes if I got the flavors right, so that wouldn’t be a good solution for me. Maybe if someone only wanted a few sips.
I don’t know, kinda thinking outloud. But if it were something I really wanted, I think I might try it. Sometimes those prepackaged drinks can have some pretty awful stuff in them.
If you do try it, tell us how it goes!
Maybe adding some balsamic? Although both strawberries and balsamic are “watch these carefully” carb territory, so maybe not.
Ketochow might be a good option. I thought their strawberry flavor was pretty good. I don’t drink it every meal or every day but I think it is good for an occasional quick meal.
I wouldn’t have thought of that. Could be an interesting flavor.
Yes, I did kinda think that trying to concentrate the strawberries would likely concentrate the sugars, too. Probably not quite where we want to go to remain keto. There are probably some extracts out there but I honestly don’t know what they’re made out of, hadn’t gone that far.
Before keto, I did used to enjoy the occasional slug of strawberry milk, which is like chocolate milk only with strawberries instead of chocolate. But it’s been a lot of years…
I think reading labels is a top priority when buying food, and making informed choices based on ingredients.
Wouldn’t it be nice if one could buy a quality keto shake at a chain store, while out and about working? But the Atkins company uses Dr. Robert Atkins’ name on industrial low-quality ingredient he would never have blessed. The first few ingredients in this are Water, Milk Protein Concentrate, Sunflower Oil, Soy Protein Isolate, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Cellulose Gel.
So, getting the fooducation on it makes me inclined to drink plain water instead! And to plan ahead so I always have a keto snack in my bag.
Or, rely on my home blender to make strawberry smoothies to go - using natural strawberry syrup (I buy it on Amazon) along with a few frozen strawberries, some avocado or coconut oil, raw grassfed whey protein, ice water, a few ice cubes, sea salt, sugar alcohol (erythritol), and maybe some rosewater, cardamom powder, and/or heavy white cream depending on my mood
Lots of good keto strawberry shake recipes with real foods ingredients out there, like this one:
When I dabbled in keto the first time last April, I bought some various Atkins bars. They were tasty, but not acceptable to my body after it left my mouth. Bad things happened. Very bad things.
@FL_girl04 I hope you haven’t taken all these responses as overly-negative. We’re a very welcoming and open community.
I think the issue is, we’re fed up about being lied to by food manufacturers and the like, and getting processed frankenfoods sold to us as healthy. Hopefully the responses here weren’t too offputting, as I said, we’re welcoming and we’re glad you’re here.
