Has anyone ever done an extreme keto diet?

Has anyone ever done an extreme keto diet? I know this guy that follows a HOGCAK type program that consists of only raw (pasteurized) eggs whites, MCT, Coconut, and EVO Oil, Organic Psyllium Powder (for fiber), and multi-vitamins. He seems to be going fine and weight is falling off of him. He also does cross-fit and vapes. I was thinking to trying it. I’ve supplemented raw (pasteurized) liquid egg whites before during bodybuilding times as its one of the best pure sources of protein you can get (provided they are used correctly). I was thinking of doing this for a week … though he has been on it for months.

That sounds miserable. Why would you want to do that as opposed to enjoying real, delicious food?

No. A thousand times, no. I’m cool with whoever wants to do this, but you do not have to do anything remotely like this. Keto/LCHF is about eating healthy with natural foods, not marketing.

EEVO is delicious, btw, but that’s another matter.

What a terrible way of getting nutrition. The only thing extreme about this is how extremely stupid it is. He could cut all the oil chugging out, nix the vitamins and just eat eggs and he’d be healthy as a horse. I guess it’s just about weight though.

Egg whites? As I recall the yolks have the enzymes necessary to digest the whites. Besides, why would you eliminate the yolks and add fat back in to replace them? Sounds pretty nutty to me.

That sounds like absolute insanity to me!!! As much as I would like to lose the extra weight I carry due to all the medications my Drs were prescribing, I also want to enjoy life!!! The last 18 months of my life battling stage 4 cancer were bad enough, I have no intention of bringing on an intentional source of misery!!!

Sounds grim! Not what I would call sustainable.

I totally agree with that. I had a great meal yesterday steak broccoli and salad with blue cheese dressing and a side of melted butter. I poured it all over my steak and broccoli!!!
I ate that at the RAM restaurant it was my hubby’s b day!
I also enjoyed a few beers! Living life is possible with out feeling guilty

Right now I’m fast three days eat keto four. Then rinse and repeat. Does that count as extreme?

(Chris) #13

Not necessarily, but watch how low your calories dip on the eating days, you can easily beat your metabolism to death using this method. I did.

(Mike Glasbrener) #14

I eat very well on feast days. I was fasting two days a week, Mon. and Thurs. It wasn’t working because each refeed undid the fast. But what are signs I’m screwing up my metabolism, just in case… I I’m getting 1/2 plus of cardio 5ish times a week…

(TJ Borden) #15

By what measure are you thinking it wasn’t working?

(Chris) #16

Feeling cold even when it’s hot is a sign of a slow metabolism. Otherwise the only other way I knew was I gained back 30 of the 80lbs I originally lost pretty fast. When I stopped fasting regularly it all evened out, my body composition is better than ever at this point but still has a ways to go.

The midsection is a bitch.

What is HOGCAK an acronym for? The only thing that comes up on google is this post.

LIVING THE DREAM!

Oh, you meant in relation to keto.

(Mike Glasbrener) #19

I wasn’t losing weight. I was also a bit sloppy and gain 25 or so over the summer. I wasn’t able to fast 2 days before. Now with “practice” 3 days isn’t too bad. My blood sugar was a bit whacked a few weeks ago. Some of it could be glucose sparing. However, I want to get down to my cycling weight… 30-40 lbs to go…

In between finding LCHF and Keto, I thought fasting would be enough on its own, and spent about 2 years focusing on IF with the combo of SAD. In those two years, I went from 420 lbs to just shy of 500lbs. Fasting can be a great tool, but the focus should be eliminating sugar/carbs.
