Has anyone else been having problems accessing this forum?

(Polly) #1

For the past 24 hours I have mostly been unable to access the site. When I was able to get in on one occasion earlier, I was unable to post.

I am not sure that this post will succeed, but will give it a go.

Has it been a localised problem or have you been affected too?

Error messages
(Michael - When reality fails to meet expectations, the problem is not reality.) #2

Yes, all day Jul 30. OK now. The error messages I got indicated a server issue. Now resolved.

(Richard Morris) #3

Yes it was a global problem.

I started a backup and brought down the server. We’re looking into finding a way to get a bigger server so this doesn’t happen again.

(Polly) #4

I am sorry you are having server problems whilst being relieved that it wasn’t something I had done at my end!

Thank you for your quick response.

#5

@richard a physical or a virtual server?

(Keya S.) #6

Hey you guys! Newbie here :wave:t3: I never knew how much I loved and depended on you guys until I could not access this forum yesterday.

Thank you for all the help and being apart of my journey. Keep up the great work :muscle:t4:!!! ~Keya

Welcome to the forum, @InfiniteKeya

I was really panicked and upset yesterday, so worried, and so was very happy to see it back up today. This forum is amazing and I love it =).

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #8

If we’d all had the problem, how would you know?:rofl::rofl:

(I’m not criticising; I routinely ask the audience members who can’t hear me to raise their hands . . . )

(Richard Morris) #9

We run in a virtual server (actually a docker instance), on a server farm in the UK. But we have limited resources allocated to it as we fund the Forums from Carl’s patreon account.

#10

Can you share the specs for the virtual server you’d need?

(Jane- Old Inky Crone) #11

I’m with you Susan, I was panicking last night when I couldn’t get on.
I was so relieved this morning when it worked again!

('Jackie P') #12

It’s an addiction for sure! :scream:

I don’t mean to pry, I’m asking because our company (www.optimus.si) has colocations, virtual servers, etc. With virtual servers you can quickly reach the roof when it becomes much cheaper to rent a physical server and colocate, especially now that prices for ssd disks have dropped. If you may share the specs, let me know, maybe we can figure something out

Yup

" You know you are ketoer when "

(Wendy) #16

I also had a problem accessing this site. So I turned off my phone and reset it. And the internet. And worked.

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #17

You have impeccable timing.

(Wendy) #18

Yeah was almost 24hrs! Kept saying couldn’t reach site. Thought they were working on it?
You might ck your internet connection. Idk I tried everything and it worked!!

(Hyperbole- best thing in the universe!) #19

It wasn’t your internet connection. If you scroll up you can see Richard started a backup and it brought down the server. The dudes are looking into finding an economical way to get a bigger server to prevent it in the future.

So you just had good timing when you got back in after reseting your internet connection.

(Wendy) #20

That is Great! Thank you for the info!
