Had a Real Bad Day

I appreciated that very much.

You can’t blame your wife’s comments…

You need to be on this lifestyle for your own convictions and value.

Nothing is the end of the world, just reset and move forward.

Most of us have been eating in ways that have had a negative impact on our health for years if not decades. But that’s in the past. It’s how we decide to live today that makes a difference. You can’t change what you did and tomorrow is yet to come, so just focus on the now and live in the moment.

Every day is a new opportunity! You can do this!

(Bunny) #24

I am not sure how long you have been doing this?

I do not think you can ā€œkick yourself out of Ketosis (fat adaption)ā€ no such thing! If you really did, you would severely damage your metabolism! Too much reliance on evidence of ketone bodies rather than on the livers metabolic adaption to using fat as fuel and over all homeostasis.

WHY THE BRAIN IS KEY TO YOUR KETO-ADAPTION
by Jeff Cyr ā€œā€¦ If you are still insulin sensitive, you still maintain your metabolic flexibility, and can easily switch from glucose to fat as needed. ā€¦ā€ http://dietshack.weebly.com/brain---key-to-keto-adaptation.html

I’m 6 months in and am still having occasionally tough days. What calms me is knowing the the slip-up days (or weeks) are gradually becoming less frequent. The reason we use the phrase, Keep Calm and Keto On, is because we know slip-ups happen due to various circumstances–because we are exchanging a lifetime of nutrition advice driven by corporate greed for healthy, balanced nutrition for the REST of our lives!

Keto today and you’ll be back to losing in no time.

Love your attitude KidKeto. K31H73 we’ve all been there and you can and will overcome this. If you’re the fasting type, flush your system with some water and some green tea, put on some gangster rap and handle it! If I k ow I’ve screwed up, I try to fast for a day, and then start over. Get your system back on track! You got this! Support is what all of us are looking for, and you’ll find it here!

If you know any recovering alcoholics or addicts, there are techniques for avoiding getting triggered and for postponing yielding to cravings. I’m sure they’d be delighted to help you. If you had a buddy you could call as needed, that might help, too. Sure helped me get and stay sober, and having this forum and people to talk to has been helping me stay away from sugar and other carbs.

BTW, on tip I recently got on these forums was to try to think of the tempting carb-laden goodie as ā€œdeathfood.ā€ So now I’m looking at my dad’s bread, my sister’s apples, my niece’s pancake batter, and my nephew’s high-wheat gravy and muttering ā€œdeathfoodā€ to myself. It’s been working so far!

By the way, try not to psych yourself into feeling deprived. It’s not ā€œI can’t have that ever again in my life,ā€ it’s ā€œI’ll definitely eat that tomorrow; just not right now.ā€

Don’t know if this will be of any value or not, but just in case…

Something you might find helpful is to have something quick and easy for you to get your hands on when you have that overwhelming desire to eat something that you just can’t not eat anything. Just make it something you don’t have to feel horrible about eating.

If you like deviled eggs, try to have some of those around. If you need sweet things, try to have some keto treats around that would satisfy a sweet tooth. If a slice of meat and a slice of cheese wrapped up together will satisfy, have those around. If a handful of nuts will satisfy you, keep them handy.

I have found that a lot of my sweet treats tend to be very high in fat and that just a small portion size of them will make me feel quite full. In other words, it doesn’t take much to satisfy me when it’s the right kind of food. Once satisfied, it really wouldn’t matter what was dangled in front of me, if I’m not hungry, I’m not hungry.

Don’t know if that’s of any value or not. I know my world abhors a vacuum. And if for whatever reason, I HAVE to eat something, might as well make it a good something that I don’t have to be sorry about later on.

Good luck!

I’ve been using IF and keto for almost two years, and I still slip up.

My last blowout, I ate two biscuits and hashbrowns from Chick-fil-a, then had 4 donuts from KK, then, a few hours later went to a pizza buffet and messed it up!

My point is this, most of us slip up, especially early on. As you keep it up, you’ll learn your triggers and you’ll increase your compliance timeframes, it WILL get easier. You will reach the point where you eat fewer foods, you learn what sets you off and what makes you feel good. It might take years, it’s a journey, not the same as ordering something off amazon and getting it in the mail two days later or hitting ā€œpurchaseā€ on an online movie and hitting play immediately, it’s slower…

One tip for overcoming the craving to cheat, have a HIGH fat meal, don’t sweat macros, don’t worry about fasting intervals, if you feel a craving ā€œstartingā€ then eat a super high fat meal, no matter the time of day. Have lots of bacon, olive oil, butter, whatever, just get a lot of fat in and that might help you overcome the craving.

Best of luck to you.

My worst time is when the wife has gone to bed. If im sat infront of the TV watching podcasts or Netflix then i will automatically want something. Now if im sat in the office playing PS4 then i wont even think of wanting anything.

(Tim W) #31

Dr Nally talks about this in the old keto talk podcasts, the triggers that we tie to food.

Replace carbage with diet Coke, pork rinds, nuts, jerky, bacon, olives, cheese crisps, or keto fat bombs. Lots of options, no carbage required!

Eventually, skip the food once or twice, it will be hard, but you’ll break the association if you do so enough times.

(Sophie) #32

I just think of it as Poison because it is, plain and simple.

#33

I do have pork rinds and walnuts here. Also Redi Whip which im actually surprised was OK on a keto diet.

#34

I’d be careful with the RediWhip unless you’re one of the 11 people on planet earth who can actually limit themselves to a serving or two. For the rest of us mere mortals, there’s about 3 ā€œservingsā€ per can. Not that I have any experience with that problem, of course. I’m not sure I’d call RediWhip ā€œketoā€ given its ingredients.

Better yet - mix up some heavy whipping cream in a bowl and sprinkle in some cinnamon.

#35

Im definitely a mere mortal then…lol.

This is a great idea!

Or:

Pour some HWC in a bowl. Add some pecans, some walnuts, some almonds, then add a pinch of sugar free shredded coconut, sprinkle with cinnamon and you are in business.

I take almonds, walnuts, pecans, sugar free coconut and toast it in the oven, sprinkle with cinnamon, then grind it to make a nutty cereal like snack, it’s great with HWC or almond milk, like having a bowl of grape nuts but with taste! I’ll add some MCT oil to ensure the fat content is high enough but you gotta be careful with that stuff. The neighbor told me how she used 1/4 cup of MCT oil in a smoothie, and it was her first time with MCT oil, the results = not good!

Best of luck to you.

I think this is my third time respawning. This experience is honestly useful because it makes you realize just how bad you feel off Keto and how normal it feels to be on. I carb binged over the week between xmas and New Years and felt super bloated too. It goes away again just as quickly as it came though.

(Keto Mom) #38

If you’re like me… don’t just pay attention to your food. Also Pay attention to triggers. They will always be there… but your response has to change.

I could be wrong… it just appeared that was what happened per your first post.

But once I conquered that I had wonderful days and even weeks on keto.

#39

Respawning is a good way to put it. Im a gamer too so it definitely makes sense. I feel so cruddy and hope i get back into it soon.

What they said!

Really, after reading all of those great replies, I have nothing better to add!

Just don’t beat yourself up and keep on!
