Grocery store baskets

(Cathy) #1

I have a habit of judging people on the basis of what’s in their shopping basket. It is out of boredom while waiting in line. I wonder what people think of my purchases… Anyone else do this?

#2

I often have to educate the cashier, as they have to look up the code…

“what is that?”

“Jicama”

“I can’t find it on the list…what is it called again?”

“Jicama”

“with an ‘H’ ?”

"no…a ‘J’ "

“sorry, can you repeat…what is it called? Gee-ca-ma?”

“Hee-ca-ma…”

“with an ‘H’?”

“no…with a ‘J’…”

:unamused:

I think folks are judging my cart sometimes. I see that side-ways glance!

Maybe they just think I’m a superhero!

Me too :joy::joy:, I’m so critical. I literally feel sick when I see people buying potatoes :joy::joy:

Just this morning as I am walking into the grocery store, I come in behind an over wieght lady who can barely walk. She stops to grab one of the boxes of donuts just inside the front door. SMH. I almost said something but bit my tongue.

Here’s a personal philosophy moment…

What other people think of my basket – or of me – is none of my business.

In other words, we’re all projecting. So 997/1000 (3 sigma) thoughts that others have about me aren’t really about me. And 997/1000 thoughts that I have about them aren’t really about them.

Insulted About My Weight
(Andrew Anderson) #7

I used to pack groceries as a teen and imagine what meals they were preparing until… an older lady bought 2 cans of cat food and a loaf of bread.

(Allie) #8

Oh yes, can’t help it. So many bad choices, but also so many who are trying to be healthy but have no idea of the harm they’re doing themselves :pensive:

(chris) #9

I see people with 10 6 packs of soda straddling the carts all along the edges and inside. I just want to lean over and whisper that all this stuff is going to kill ya.

(Eiva) #10

i use to been like that… but i have changed the way I eat so many times so I have stopped it…
I even done one month potato challenge (eating nothing but potatoes whole month), I have done 5 month RAW vegan challenge, - raw fruits and veg… and judged all of you folks… Been vegeterian all my life… Last week started eating meat…

#11

How did the 1-month potato eating feel like? I’m curious…seems harsh. what was your experience like?

#12

You did well to “bite your tongue”.

True and Wise!!!

(Jennifer) #14

Right, cause I was that person just 6 months ago.

Once you finally figure out the answer you want to tell everyone and scream it from the rooftops. And watching people continue to eat sugar is like watching their slow mo suicide.

#15

I agree with you. I become angry with myself that I didn’t buy into LCHF much much earlier. I am frustrated that what is healthful is still so vilified. I became obese as a result of all of it. While I am grateful for finally working on the keto WOE and IF I have great sadness watching the sickness around me.

(Siobhan) #16

I don’t judge other people so much as feel sad they don’t know the answer is right there if they look for it! But same, I used to be that person, so I don’t think poorly of them.
It does get aggravating though like watching my co-worker go on a grapefruit diet, or a juice “cleanse” and it’s like… honestly… so sad.

I do however wonder if other people judge what I’m getting. I kind of figure they just assume I’m all stocked up on bread/potatoes/pasta and am just getting other ingredient stuff lol

(Arlene) #17

I went on all these diets, including the grapefruit diet and a juice cleanse. I was the person that said “I could never live without sugar”. The best we can do is talk the truth to those who want to hear it. When the time is right, they will be ready to hear the truth and ready to change their lives. Many will never change. They may complain a lot and constantly be on another diet, or they may just not care. It is very sad to watch, but that’s the way it is.

(Siobhan) #18

Yeah I have tried to mention it to her before, but she is not open to the idea. She is very in the CICO mindset, so I leave her alone. Not my place to push my ideas on her!
That said anyone at work who wants to hear the info I have gets it - I have 4 people at work at various stages of interest in keto, including one who requested I be his keto coach.
You can lead a horse to keto…

I have great confidence that one day keto will reclaim the world, even if not in my lifetime.

So true!

When i go to the store, I look what is in my basket and it is a bunch of veggies, moderate amount of meats, and a bunch of cheeses, nothing processed. Most people would look at it and consider it very healthy by conventional thinking.

I really don’t pay attention to most peoples baskets because what they eat does not effect my happiness in life. I do find it hard sometimes in the checkout line when I see a younger person who has nothing but processed food products and no real food. I find myself wondering if they were ever taught a life skill on how to cook real food. This is one of the reasons why I have been getting my step son involved in our cooking, so he can actually cooks veggies, meats, fruits, etc.
