Great interview with Dr Robert Lustig, prof endocrinology at University of California San Francisco. He describes our eating of vegetation as unnecessary and being vestigial habit from evolution of our earlier life forms even before evolving to human, carbohydrates in our diet being completely unnecessary with examples of tribes eating ZC without problems, farm subsidies that need to be stopped as they promote eating of carbs and fuel the cheap processed food epidemic, how he was attacked by food & drink reps on BBC TV during an interview…excellent interview!
Great interview with Dr Robert Lustig
Very good interview, sometimes it does seem we are conspiracy nuts going against what everybody “knows” but if you can understand the science it all makes sense.
He’s looking thinner than in older videos.
I think he needs to buy a new (smaller) suit!
Great guy, bombproof info, reliable presentation.
I enjoy Dr Lustig’s general “F-You Sugar Monkeys” demeanor when he speaks.
I always enjoy listening to Dr. Lustig. We are fighting an uphill battle with the food industry.
This is such a great interview. I hope many people see it. He’s calling diabetes “processed food disease”. The food industry is going to fight this label as hard and as long as they can.
This is a freaken awesome interview and EVERYONE should watch it. It’s going to everyone I know…
Excellent…he has some great stuff, really helped me understand that my past overeating was a biological drive, not a moral failing.
I like how Gary Taubes described the underlying hormonal issue. He said, basically, we are not putting on weight because we eat too much — we eat too much because we are putting on weight. This one description really helped my understanding of hormonal/metabolic disorders.
Makes me so sad that the medical profession here in the UK still abides by the established wisdom. Only this morning on the BBC a nutritionist was speaking against “fad diets” including low carb without being challenged.
Don’t know if I’ve seen/read his stuff yet - is there a specific book or video I should look for? Thanks!
I think this particular description came from Why We Get Fat, and I have heard him use it in some video presentations that you can find on YouTube. I also recommend Good Calories, Bad Calories although that one is more technically dense than WWGF.
Indeed, it was watching some of his YouTube videos that finally convinced me to go sugarless in tea and coffee. One Saturday night, I remember, just deciding no more. Never have had extra sugar in my drinks since the second week in January. Even after years of cutting down, and trying to reduce and quit.
When you’re ready to quit, it’s easy.
I’ve started drinking my coffee black several months ago. I cringe when I think of all the sugar I’ve consumed over the years with just putting it in my coffee not to mention all the sugar in the processed foods.
I’ve been sugar free since July, but it always helps to hear the science behind it to reinforce that commitment.
just watched this @Fiorella and first time i have seen an interview where he admits do not have to eat 1 gram of carbs. His position used to be anti sugar but he has slowly been moving to a low carb position. Still concentrates on sugar as this is the main carb people eat but this is fascinating to watch.
yeah…it is pretty amazing how Dr Lustig has drifted towards endorsing lower carb and no carb.
I would say it was kind of inevitable really given his stance. I remember ages ago he and Jimmy Moore had an heated debate over grains, I would what that debate would be now ?
