Got fed up - don't judge

I’m not sure if it’s an age related thing, I hope someone can chime in, but protein seems a bit on the low side at 48.

Doing the math in my head, total kcals are under 1000. Fat AND protein are both too low.

(Ashley) #23

I agree that low is putting the body into starvation mode I believe it’s called!

(Running from stupidity) #24

Yeah, that’s exactly why I was asking, seems off.

Well I didn’t even think of counting calories I thought because I was eating fat they were high. I counted the calories from yesterday and it’s 1020! Maybe that’s where I’ve been going wrong all along? So how do I fit more calories in? More fat? More protein? Help?

If you track your food intake (I use Cronometer, because I trust it, others use other apps/programs) for a few days, you’ll have a way of telling exactly what you need to do. (For wildly variable meanings of “exact,” but it’s a far better starting point than just guessing

Thank you I’ll do that :grinning:

Not sure if my experiences will help, but I am 66 and female with no gall bladder. I am 5 months into keto, started at 160 lbs and have lost 35 so far. I lost 20 lbs in the first couple of months and then it slowed. Have never really measured my carbs, fats or proteins. Just avoided the carbs and tried to add fats where possible.
My real progress started when I began IF. It’s not regular, but I try to eat when I’m hungry and that’s not usually until mid to late afternoon. Am slipping into a routine of 1 to 2 meals a day. When I ate more, I stalled, no matter how low the carbs were. I went through several periods where I tried to find keto substitutes for things like bread and sweets, but they just made me think about food and eat more. I find I do better just eating because I’m hungry and not for ‘fun.’
As time goes on, it seems to be getting easier. I know I’ve reduced my total calories and may be getting too few, but I feel great. I was struggling to swim 30 laps before and now am up to 50 without feeling exhausted. My acid reflux and IBS are gone and I have lots of energy.
But even with my success, I don’t judge anyone who is struggling on this lifestyle. Not sure if I could have done it while working full time. The transition is very difficult and I am still trying to find the best way to make it a lifetime way of eating. But, I also cannot see myself going back to being that miserably fat old woman who felt tired and sick all the time. For me, it’s working. I truly hope you find your way to success.

Thanks Jeanbar it’s good to hear from someone in a similar situation. I think I’ve been doing it wrong all along. I’ve got the Cronometer app so now I can keep track of what I’m eating and started that. I will up my fat intake and see how that goes. I think I will have to work out my macros again as from what others have said they seem to be out. I’m going to try the IF on the days I go to work. On the days I don’t work I can go from breakfast to dinner depending what time I have breakfast. If it’s mid morning I can wait until dinner but if it’s early. Seem to need a snack before dinner. But then if I up my fat I might not need to snack.

Don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to do this. Just keep experimenting until you find what works for you. And don’t judge yourself, either.

(Pat) #32

I upped my fat and protein last week and lost 1kg. I noticed I was thirsty and kept needing a pee so it was probably water weight but now I think I’ve solved it. Do the macros have to be evened out with every meal or doesn’t that matter?

(Running from stupidity) #33

Not a problem.

Thanks
