To make even Ketogenic sound nice … get them to watch this.
Throw in the idea that breastfed babies are in ketosis … and can’t everyone agree that is good ?

The point is that many people don’t want the help, as they prefer to argue or call people “keto snobs” and make it into an ego thing. Note the context of the thread.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this. What a terrific analogy and one that may likely help me keep my big mouth shut. Thanks!
Lucky you.
I learned the analogy by asking people about the vitamins they take.
They said they take vitamin A B C D E … Z.
I would say (trying to be helpful) “the latest research says that’s not helpful and just makes expensive urine”. And it didn’t go over well ! They were offended ! Now I listen more and judge less … it’s their religion after all.
This to the Nth degree. I do now have a coworker who is also keto, so I listen to her explain it to others. And I watch the eye rolls she gets. But she’s down 50+ pounds and looks great. They keep dismissing her as a crackpot. KCKO!
I keep thinking about these co-workers…project out 2mos and they will be the same ones lugging all that carby shit to the holiday get togethers but failing to mention how the diet they started never did any good. Then feeling guilty they are eating all that crap, etc. etc. an eat it, they will! It’s a vicious cycle and it’s horrible to watch once you step off that merry-go-round of insanity.
I had to shut down my Aunt this weekend over the Keto thing. She told her friend that we (my cousin and I) can’t have “that” stuff in reference to some lasagna the lady brought. I just said that I eat meat and veggies. I find that most people can’t really argue that those are bad choices. Moving forward…
Sophie you just showed me myself, ugh! Thank you. Here’s some bacon to show my gratitude.
I was listening to a podcast on Ketovangelist yesterday. Brian Williams was interviewing a doctor that uses keto with his patients. Unfortunately, I don’t remember his name. Anyway, at the end of the podcast the doctor and Brian mentioned that when people talk about changing their diet to solve a health problem, the pushback is terrible, but if a new medication comes out to solve the same health problem, it is welcomed. That is the kind of attitude that you come up against when trying to tell people about Keto.
I tell colleagues I’m on a modified Mediterranean diet with lots of healthy oils … then slowly reel them with more information if they bite. They stare at you blankly, can’t argue with it and eventually most people and their GP’s think it sounds wonderful and ask for more information. I cant claim this though as Dr Rod Taylor from Low Carb Dowb Under mentioned it as a way to break down barriers with our colleagues
Ive used that trick as well and it works.
Low Sugar Mediterranean diet.
Since all carbs end up as sugar … you have to eliminate them all.
Its great that you can do that.
Whenever I start saying keto I get a blank look and then suddenly the light dawns and they say, oh you are doing Atkins, been there done that, not interested at all
My coworkers think I’m destroying my body with clogged arteries and the fat I’m eating is going to make me fat. One problem, blood pressure down and weight down. I keep looking healthier all the time. Let the cynics have their day. At 62, with keto, I have turned my health completely around. You like me don’t need someone’s permission to do what’s right.
Of course they do, that’s what we have had drilled into our collective heads for decades. I used to believe the same thing, for the same reason. Haven’t we all been convinced of that at some point?
Now we know better, some of us anyway. Change takes time but it is happening.
It’s crazy when I think back to what my views on health and dieting was. I remember telling my coworker I could lose weight on an ice cream diet because all that matters is calories in vs calories out. Silly young me. So I don’t blame anyone for their views, keto is pretty counter culture in a lot of ways.
That I understand @Saphire You can only guide them when they ask questions. Till then, as the boys say ‘Keep Calm, and Keto On’
let your results speak for you.
Thank you.
Had the most depressing experience with my husband’s older cousin this weekend. He is in his late 70s, one kidney due to kidney cancer was never heavy, could stand to lose about 10 lbs maybe, really does look great. His wife used to be thin her entire adult life but has gained about 30lbs or so since last I saw her. Has some autoimmune skin conditions which she has always had but looks ok too. They are both diabetic T2. He is on basal and bolus insulin but his A1C he claims is in the 6s. When I spoke about keto he had no idea then said he is not giving up bread, then said he is not eating more fat because it is bad and blocks sugar from being absorbed?! I said if he stops eating sugar he will not have to worry about it being absorbed. He is an intelligent man so I asked if he was interested in researching, he said no, he relies on his doctor. When I said his doctor has had no nutrition training and knows shit about nutrition, he said his doctor knows shit about drugs too except what the drug representatives tell him. He said he is not giving up his bread and to which I replied, I would rather give up bread than fingers and toes! That kind of killed the conversation!
