Globesity: Fat's New Frontier documentary

(Stickin' with mammoth) #1

I can’t believe I hadn’t seen this 2012 documentary, it’s pretty good.

It touches on all the right things: exposing corporate greed and their chicanery of funding nutritional studies so they can control the results, calling out sugar as the problem rather than lack of exercise, revealing how big business turned its aggressive and misleading ad campaigns to third world countries to keep profits flowing when America’s spending leveled out. It even briefly features Dr. Fung.

A pro-active reverend announces, “I’m finding that I’m losing more people to sweets than I am to the streets,” and then he sued Coca-Cola!

Chile’s Senator Guido Girardi said, "Fraudulent advertising violates the human rights of children and all the United Nation’s treaties that are supposed to defend children’s rights and health. We accuse these corporations of pedophilia because they abuse children. That is why I’ve had extremely violent conflicts with some of them. " He was successful in banning all of them…and it worked. Wow.

At the very end is the most poignant and terrifying commercial I’ve ever seen.
