Getting started with carnivore tomorrow! :)

#1

I’m excited. I’ve had some bumps in the road in the last couple of years and really need a hard reset. I see nothing at all wrong with good quality cheese, nuts, 100% dark chocolate, leafy greens, and cruciferous veggies. But, for now – none of those will be in my diet. I’m looking at ground beef, salmon, eggs, and chicken thighs to start.

Wish me luck and toss me any other food ideas you might have. I’m a decent cook, but honestly, I see no reason to look at recipes for a while.

Sounds like a decent plan. I would keep it as simple as possible for as long as you can. I would Wait until you are totally adapted before you add nuts and chocolate. And maybe just limit the cheese for now.

Once you find your balance and feel like you have a good home base, then add one thing at a time, wait and evaluate.

However you end up doing it, glad you are back in the game.
You got this!

Good luck! I can relate, I plan a carnivore month too! I won’t say no cheese but I will start without it and only add a little when I feel the need. I see nothing wrong with any vegs, nuts or fruits in moderation in my own case but I don’t want them for a while.

There are some interesting recipes on carnivore blogs… I just cook something extremely simple - or play with something slightly more elaborated… It’s so much easier on carnivore especially if it’s seriously limited (to me, carnivore allows all animal items and that’s quite a wide selection), I was lost in the infinite possibilities on keto sometimes.

Pork picnic (shoulder joint). It’s dead easy to roast (it comes with a layer of fat, so if you roast it with the fat up, it’s completely self-basting) and provides quite a few really tasty meals.

Grassfed chuck roast. Seared, then Ninja air fryer 20min, at 400 degrees. Absolutely delicious. Juicy plenty of fat with just the right crunch on the outside. And perfect medium rare on the inside! :yum:

My favs are pork chuck and pork butts (it’s sold as “thigh” here but looking at the generous fat layers and the general shape, it’s probably not ham)! Both are wonderful, maybe even better cold, I just put them into the oven in bigger pieces with some salt, turn them sometimes and they just become great without anything else in 2+ hours at 180C (I make very nearly everything at 180C).

And I have some super eggy recipes but I don’t think normal people would be into them
Today I just eat pork chuck roast, a fried pork butt slice and some boiled eggs (soft- and hard-boiled alike). Maybe scrambled eggs if I won’t be into the hard-boiled ones.

Of course there are zillions of meats to enjoy, we all have different tastes and I for one like variety. I have turkey drumsticks, pork tongues, chicken liver, mouflon (it’s a common kind of sheep here, a wild game) and a little beef in my freezer now. But I normally just eat my fav 2 pork cuts, sometimes a 70/30 mix with various smaller pieces, I get lard from it and lovely crunchy scratching-like things…

Good for you; I hope you like it. I’ve been carnivore/zc for 1.5 years and several times a week will have good quality cheese. As I was told, as long as it comes from an animal and is in a pure state, it qualifies as carnivore. Works for me. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the good wishes, everyone. I just got back from Aldi and grabbed an 8-pound pork shoulder roast. I am highly motivated and will do a one-month follow-up report on October 1. Stay tuned.

Good luck Metro, keep us posted throughout the month. I like your idea of doing a hard reset.

Quick update…all good news so far – down 10 pounds since Sept 1, but I have enough experience with keto to know that the honeymoon will be over soon. But, it is encouraging for now. Eat twice a day – around 9 am and then around 2 pm. The first few days I was quite tired in the afternoon, but I pushed through and am not tired anymore.

208# now. My ultimate goal weight is around 175 (what I weighed in college). Once I break 200 I think I will very gradually reintroduce some veggies, cheese, and nuts. Very small amounts to start. Gotta break 200 first! I got my game face on!

Two thoughts on this: First, you may not want them, after sufficient time on a ketogenic diet. At this point you are not likely even to be fat-adapted yet, which is the point where fatty acid metabolism really increases. Second, should you decide to increase your carbohydrate intake, be extremely careful. Returning to the diet that got you into trouble is likely to put you back where you were when you started. (Heed the voice of experience on this!)

I don’t think doing a somewhat limited keto (without all the sweeteners and almond flour and fruits and whatever else many others use) is the same as returning to some old carby diet… Cheese, nuts and certain vegs, it sounds good and pretty much keto to me.
Unless one eats vegs like I did ages ago, of course. If they are too carby, one should be careful, I agree with that. (Sometimes even if they aren’t but it’s individual.)

@Metro: 10 pounds, wow  I can’t know how much is water from it so I don’t say it’s great but still not a bad start
