Getting insurance to pay for MTHFR testing

(Jackie) #1

Hi,

My husband sees a physician assistant that is very willing to consider any science I present. I recently asked her to do several blood tests on my husband (fasting insulin, FBS, lipid profile, HBA1C, MTHFR, HSCRP, homocysteine, etc.) I included the MTHFR because he has several family members with cardiovascular disease. I have two copies of the MTHFR. The test results show that he has one copy.

However, the insurance doesn’t want to pay for the test without a letter of medical necessity. The PA has asked me for any research she could use in a letter to try to get them to cover the test.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi there

I have a strong family history of blood clots so I asked for a thrombosis panel before I went on a med and the MTHFR test was included. You can always get a 23&me DNA test and check out your SNPs through a 3rd party… Good luck!

PubMed is open the public, you can do your own research there. Good Luck!
