I have read that during either IF or EF you could use creamer or MCT oil but staying under 50 calories and not break a fast. If your doing an EF 24 or longer how often could you ingest those under 50 calories? TY
General 50 calories
Maybe, but I would only do it if you needed it, like that hour 18 where your feeling hunger.
I fortunately never really experience the hour 18 thing that lots of people say they feel on fasting. When I fast, I drink water lots and lots of water, and that gives me the feeling of being full.
If your fat adapted, which I highly recommend you be before fasting you wonāt have much hunger at all, especially if your drinking plenty of water throughout the day. I will admit I get some calories from drinking black coffee. Maybe I get close to 50 calories from black coffee. So thereās that.
I havenāt used this, but Iāve heard others say that if the hunger pains hit you brush your teeth. Who wants to eat after you just got your teeth all clean?
Thank you, I am an experience faster and ketoer, but the question was posed to me and I didnāt have an answer. I only sip water with acv and salt all day during a fast. So I didnāt know. TY for the response.
Dr. Fung says no more than 2 teaspoons of hwc. Use only if you really need it.
I have noticed more and more websites and youtube videos saying things like āup to 500 caloriesā while fasting, WTF???
I use bone broth sometimes, usually to be social at meal time with DH, I add the teaspoon of hwc to coffee, and that is it when fasting. I used to use the 50 cals. but that didnāt work out well for me, I would do a tiny amount of nuts to keep going.
Now if I am fasting and feel like I need to eat, I just eat a regular meal, then start fasting after that meal, going as long as I can. My extended fasts are in the 80-95 hrs. range. I sometimes do break halfway through and then dive back in to get to the 95 hr. mark.
I think any length of fasting is good for us, water fasting is best, then coffee/broth/hwc supplemented, they are all good.
And the answer is⦠YMMV
For the purpose of IF/EF for Ketosis and Autophagy anything that is insulinogenic or that disrupts or stops Ketosis and/or Autophagy and itās different for everybody.

Itās quite amazing how that magic number is a nice round one like 50, I must say.
While blindfolded. And drunk. Then claiming the result is the one true answer.
Thank you so very much for the links. I have viewed them all previously and both sources are great info. I recently watched the my2docs testing on sugars/artificial sweeteners.
That is a REALLY old one, I donāt think the millies even use it. I see Juice has provided the translation for you.

I actually learned it from here took me several months to figure out most of the abbreviations still some I donāt know.

YMMV
Iām really quite secular all the way, but it always reminds me of the Hebrew name for God, i.e. YHWH.
Yeah, I know there is google for these things, but posts are much easier to read if for abbreviations, the first time they are spelled out. Iām not sure on all the text message abbreviations, I know people use them because they donāt want to type it out. I never got into all that texting. Guess Iāll figure them out as they come.

I agree.

I think thatās metric calories⦠aka 69 imperial calories.

Krista Varady used 500 calories when she was studying alternate day fasting (or āfastingā) and it worked well in that people lost weight and didnāt lose muscle mass, and didnāt seem to have metabolic slowdown.
So itād depend on the goal. If youāre just in it for weight loss, itās probably fine. Insulin control and autophagy? Probably not.
