Great Podcast from Joe Rogan Experience

Joe Rogan is how I found keto. In this podcast he interviews Gary Taubes who wrote “The Case Against Sugar.” Joe Rogan talks about how he is keto and the interviewee discusses his decades of going after bunk scientists when it comes to nutrition. http://podcasts.joerogan.net/podcasts/gary-taubes

Great podcast I love his health ones. Taubes isn’t the most exciting speaker but the content is good  Although his ending talk about intermittent fasting was a tad odd, I thought he would be more informed on that part.

Also the part at the end about drugs I found a tad odd, I guess he was joking?

I just finished The Case Against Sugar and the case seems very compelling.

Personally, I think Gary Taubes has done some of the most important work in moving the needle on the bogus nutrition science. I recommend his Why We Get Fat and Good Calories, Bad Calories.

Why We Get Fat is the “for Dummies” version of Good Calories, Bad Calories though. The former is meant for people and the latter is meant for scientists. iirc

I think that’s right. GCBC is much more technically dense. I actually enjoy that kind of reading but not everyone does. WWGF is very accessible and an enjoyable read.

I thought WWGF was highly technical still.

I think Gary Taubes is taking on a clever strategy. In his earlier books, all carbs were scrutinized. In his latest book, the focus is on the “empty calorie” sugar…and can refute the CICO with greater clarity, since he can zero in on metabolic differences in our digestion of sugar. This puts a bigger crack in the CICO armour…much greater than a “all carbs” fight. Brilliant strategy.

As a PhD scientist I think this is a fantastic podcast. Only 5% of scientists doing science correctly.

Yes, sounds about right.
