Gaining weight, feeling bloated

(Lindsay Erin) #1

Hi,

I started keto about a month ago and was doing great. I felt like I was losing weight (probably water weight) and was loving keto. I had several cheat days last week though and now feel as though I can’t get back into ketosis, I feel like I’ve gained weight and I’m bloated. I haven’t been strict on counting macros thus far except for this week and I did stay within them. I don’t know what is wrong and I feel like I’m completely back where I started one month ago!! Of note, I work out 2-3 times per week at orange theory. I also just started taking birth control 2 weeks ago and am wondering if that has anything to do with it?? Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Birth control can definitely effect fat loss, because most birth control methods effect hormones. Beyond that, I’m not a big help with advising the ladies other than to say it can be tougher for you.

The first couple of months you really have to be strict in order to allow your body to adapt. You recognize what you’ve done that has created obstacles in your path, as well as the new medication which certainly has the potential to mess with hormones. The best advice is simple, keep calm and keto on. I found listening to the podcast every day gave me motivation and inspiration to continue, as well as great knowledge to help me understand well why I was doing this. I’m only a month in currently, but have avoided cheat days and am feeling really great NSV’s which outweigh my more moderate weight loss. Not sure about the bloating…if you are finding it hard to stick to keto diet, I would honestly suggest just really eating really well on keto foods, make fatbomb treats and keep them in the freezer, have cooked bacon at the ready, have cheese cut up and ready to go, just make it super easy to grab the healthy keto foods you know you love, while also reducing your exposure to the carby temptations. Once you’ve fully adapted, your body will tell you that it’s not hungry and you will see the results as you naturally eat less. Don’t give up, you can do this! Good luck <3
