Gained weight in spite of sticking to it

16:8 fasting, firmly in keto with macros exactly as should be (monitoring through chronometer), even keeping calorie count to under 1300 daily. Also clocked 4 exercise sessions this week. Gained 1.5 lbs :weary:. Any suggestions? I do appreciate it’s not a straightforward journey but I’d like to see some reward for my efforts. Oh and body measurements stayed the same too!

This is probably it (he says, not knowing the first thing about the OP). Your body wants a decent amount of energy, you’re not providing it, so your body is desperately hanging on to every skerrick it gets.

I would suggest an extended fast if you feel you are fat adapted try a 2 or 3 day fast mix it up a little, keep your body guessing, I enjoy 3 to 4 day fasts, the first 24 hours is the hardest part then pretty easy

Exercise causes muscles retain fluid. A scale isn’t the best measure of progress.
Just hang in there, friend.

I don’t see how you could possibly have gained 1.5 pounds eating 1300 calories, while in keto.

Which suggests it is fluid retention.

Just wait it out.

Thanks for the positive support - I will hang it out for sure. Made a decision that this IS my lifestyle choice now and I firmly believe it will work well for me over time. It’s just taken me so long to reach a state of Ketosis - over 6 weeks - I think all those years of low fat took its toll.:pensive:

@Flossiehogan
Susan, I would encourage you to take measurements! They’re a much better gauge of your progress if fat loss is your goal.

It’s only water retention. It’s absurd to think it might be fat.

Daily fluid changes. Don’t sweat it. Pun intended. Just keep doing what you’re doing for now. KCKO

OK, people just have to stop freaking out about daily changes in the scale. Here’s my weight data for this year (since May 9, when I restarted):

2018

I can gain or lose 4-7 pounds in a single day if fasting or coming off a fast. I was relatively stable this week (around 200 pounds), then had (today) an almost 4 pound gain in a single day. This is while eating one meal a day except for yesterday and Tuesday, when I worked out in the morning and ate two meals. Why did I suddenly ā€œgainā€ 4 pounds? No idea.

The lows on this graph are all due to extended fasting, the highest value after vacation, where I gained 7 pounds in one week, and it will easily take me a month to get rid of that weight.

By ā€œrestartedā€ I mean restarted using the scale. I’ll be low carb 5 years on January 1, 2019.

Just to qualify - I do measure and they didn’t budge and I only weigh myself once a week at the same time. I live in hope that if I put the work in ( and I do) I will eventually see the benefits :stuck_out_tongue:
