Gained 10 lbs on vacation

#1

Something interesting happened this week on vacation. I gained 10 lbs without changing my diet very much. For the most part I cooked all my own food and ate things I have been eating for the past 4 months. I am a contractor so my activity level probably decreased during vacation, but we were not really sitting around either. I was probably feasting a little more than normal, but stayed at 3 Keto meals per day, and no snacking.

Any thoughts or similar experiences out there.

Sometimes just the mix up in routine can cause the change. Chances are it’s mostly water weight and will quickly fall back off once you’re back to normal life.

I had just the opposite happen this week. I went on a 5 day vacation and lost 2 pounds. Weird because I definitely increased both my carb and my overall food intake. Checked blood ketones and stayed at 0.6-0.8 all week. Didn’t do intermittent fasting either. This WOE certainly does throw some weird curveballs.

Thanks, I’m not really concerned about it, but I do think it is interesting.

Did you fly? I retain tons of water when I fly. I doubt you gained 10bs of fat in this situation.

First, don’t beat yourself up about it. Sometimes life just happens to you in your vacation of off-time. And to a certain extent, that’s a good thing. Your should be able to enjoy food ad libitum sometimes and not be the weird guy who doesn’t parttake in eating because of fasting, or whatever. Remember that food is more than fuel, it’s also has a social function!

Second, weight loss is a strange, non-linear thing. I’ve gained and lost 5lbs in a matter of 24 hours. It’s totally non-predictable. How are you doing circumference-wise? That may be the more important marker! How are you feeling apart from the weight gain? If you feel well, I wouldn’t sweat it, TBH.

No, and my measurements are all about the same as when I left too.

My recent experience was the opposite. I probably walked over 12 miles a day each day but ate carbs and put on 11lb in 7 days. Took 3 weeks to get rid of it so.no real harm.
