Hi
I m doing keto for 4+months now. I started underweight but wanted to maintain it. I m 1.60 m and 48 kg. I feel right with this weight…
i ve never cheated and keep my carbs very low…max 10 gr net per day, 2-3%. My protein was at first higher but decreased it to 10-15%. The rest is fat.
I started mostly with olive oil, avocados, fat dairy and some nutbutter. For 3,5 months my weight was stable. Everything allright…I then started eating more butter and less olive oil. No processed foods at all…Vegetables green yes…Not everyday, except for avocados, which i love…Cut off stevia…only once now and then.
These past 2 weeks i ve gained 2 kgrs and cant figure out why.
I ve had my period but this ended a week ago and the klos are right there…
I ve measured myself and 1 cm is all over…
I want to add that i consume 1200-1300 cals per day. Once a week i eat fewer. About 600cal. I ve read somewhere that this could help if u over eat.
I exercise daily. Light exercise but daily.
I drink 2,5 lit a day and take magnesium supplements. And eat salt adequately.
Havent changed anything…
I know that some could say, ok, shes 50 kgs and she complaints?? I know that my weight is ok, even with these 2 kgr BUT I DONT LIKE ME …And i think that is the essence to everyone, to feel ok in his body…
Any proposals? what to do??
Gain weight..why?
Do you mean that you are consuming 1200-1300 per day, but once a week you eat fewer cals at 600? I would have to say my best guess would be that you are actually not eating enough.
Have you tried upping your calories on that particular day to meet 1200 and checking the results? It might be wise.
Yes i have. But next day i felt bloated.
Besides first weeks, i have to add, this feeling of not being bloated, disappeared.
I mean i generally dont feel bloated all the time, but i do. And thats very often.
I ve done low calorie diet for whole my life…Perhaps this 600calorie day, comes from my past…Bad habits die hard
I may wait for some more experienced ketoers, I honestly don’t have any experience in the gaining weight area, I wish I did!
I think it may have something to do with a reduced BMR though for relying on low calorie for so long. Sorry I can’t provide more advice, I am sure some other people will come along and enlighten us to what it may be. Following because I am interested in the responses.
And i dont consume much dairy. Some feta, some gouda (a slice at best) and 100gr of yoghurt…And as for nuts, only 5-6 walnuts not every day. The one thing that in some days i over consumed was tahini… 2-3 tbs in some days
Keto is about bring hormonal balance to the body.
Just as some overweight people get stuck 10-20lbs above their preferred weight as if that is their bodies preferred weight, it may be that your body is not happy with you being underweight and is bringing you back to something that is more biologically optimal.
Unfortunately how we think we look good and the best thing for us biologically may not be the same thing.
Your BMI is 18.7 which is at the very low end of ‘normal’ borderline underweight.
You said you have been calorie restricting for years, so it may take some time, with a little bouncing in your weight, for your metabolism and hormones to sort themselves out.
Focus on how you feel, if you have more energy. Personally I would up the calories a bit otherwise you’ll never get your metabolism back on track.
Couldn’t agree more with @Jacymac - if you’ve restricted calories for a long time & then icreased them you are bound to see some weight gain.
Yes, i can understand the logic in that, but besides these 2 weeks my weight was stable…Besides when on period. But then it came off
I feel your frustration. The body is a complex beast and trying to analyse the small fluctuations over a daily or even weekly basis will only frustrate you more.
I’m trying to head the other way down the scale, but am in the group of being stuck a few kgs over where I would prefer to be. Sometimes my weight goes up or down by a kg or 2, but generally it is pretty stable. If I tried to work out where each kg of gain or loss came from I would go nuts!
If you feel better, stick with it and accept that you can’t control it so precisely. It has taken me a while to get to the same place, so you have my understanding.
As @Jacymac said, it may bounce around for a bit while your metabolism gets used to it. If you look on youtube you’ll find videos about reverse dieting - basically if your metabolism has slowed through constant calorie restriction then the only way to reset it is to eat a bit more. Doesn’t have to be a lot more to begin with but continuing to restrict while at an already low weight won’t help in the long run.
i feel frustrated cause i m doing everything by the book and felt at last that i can eat feel satiated and stay in my ideal(to my standards )weight.
The problem is that the first thing that i ve done when i weighed myself and saw these extra kilos, is eat less. Yesterday i ate only an avocado with some turkey… and today i m still in panic and plan to eat nothing…
U think that this will bring the opposite result? maybe try to eat fat, mostly fat with only some meat for somedays could help?
but if i gain even more?these 2 or 3 kgrs really show in my case…my clothes start to feel tight and even see the difference in my face…and its not my idea…it really is
i m 39 years old.
I ve been eating 1000 calories for…whole my life??? I started these bad diets since i was 15…Sometimes i ate less…I had bulimic episodes for years…Not often, but once a week for sure
Well 39 is a good age to try & repair your metabolism - get it revving before your hormones go haywire Keto really is a healing diet & as much as I’m aware you don’t want to gain weight I’m going to guess that you still want to be healthy right? I really can only recommend that you focus for now on nourishing yourself & allowing yourself a little leeway. Different exercise such as weight training might help recomp your body so that any weight you may gain in healing your metabolism is in the form of muscle & bone.
there s still hope for me, right? hahahah
I do want to stay healthy and dont wanna go back to my old carb life and will cartainly not!
Do u think a fat fast would help?
i still wont give up with these annoying 2 kgrs…
I just noticed that you reduced your protein prior to gaining the 2kg - perhaps the higher protein was better for you?
As to fat fasts - I really couldn’t say I’m afraid! I certainly wouldn’t recommend calorie restriction so if you are going to try it then I’d make sure you get sufficient calories
yes…now that i think, since i ve reduced it i started not feeling very great…
i ll try upping it again to 25%…nothing to loose…only these 2 %^&&^%% kilos! hahahah
