Fruit?

I was a big fruit eater, how does everyone deal with the no fruit??

After a while, you’ll be able to add back in low carb berries. It really gets easier the longer you go.

fruit in my opinion has been so cultivated and bred too suit a better taste than what nature gave us ,thats why I olny eat organic strawberrys or black berrys before 10ks

I eat blackberries, blueberries and raspberries occasionally. I am very careful how many I eat, counting the carbs and making sure I don’t go over my net carbs for the day. I seem to eat them less and less. The blackberries, which used to taste sour to me, are now very sweet.

I sometimes make lime or lemon curd with powdered swerve. I also enjoy an occasional fruit flavored water with zero carbs.

I like fruit, and I refuse to eliminate it from my diet. Its refreshing, especially on hot summer days…

A low carb diet doesn’t require obstaining from fruit, it just needs to be moderated. This can be accomplished several ways:

  1. Determining your specific carb tolerance, which may be sufficient to allow fruit consumption
  2. Fasting, which increases dietary flexibility
  3. Carb ups, variation done weekly/monthly/seasonally/occasionally

I admit I miss mango and pineapple, but I’m sure I would find it way too sweet nowadays if I tried it. I will have berries from time to time. I had a bite of an apple for the first time in over a year - out of curiosity, and it was so sweet! It wasn’t bad, but had no desire for a second bite.

I miss the fruit too. Berries, berries, berries. Although, I did see on a Keto Podcast that you can also have Grapefruit. I havn’t investigated that further to see if it’s true or not. Maybe a berry smoothie with Almond Milk and avocado might satiate you.

I have eaten grapefruit before. I haven’t done it for awhile. I can only eat about 1/4 fruit and meet my macros (I was weighing and measuring by grams). That small amount did not throw me out of ketosis. It tasted good. I might have to plan for some every now and again.

Hi I’m new to the forum and noticed your post! I’ve been doing keto on and off for a while now and on my longest streaks the way I avoided fruit was thanks to a few small things. First is Kombucha Tea which gives you that sugary buzz of fruit without as much carbohydrate. Second is lemon water which I find to sooth those sweetness cravings. Finally Apple cider vinegar is very good for maintain that stomach balance which will get rid of those cravings!

@Adude60

Oh! Those are good ideas I haven’t tried before.

Thanks!

#1 for sure.
I have a handful of blueberries in my shake at the moment. Sometimes I go for blackberries or raspberries.

Adding soda water and possibly lemon to the ACV is particularly good

I eat a lot of avocados–best fruit.

Strawberries, blackberries and blueberries… oh my! These are the fruits I tend to buy.

:stuck_out_tongue: hey that rhymes

You think you’ve got it bad giving up fruit…

Last spring before I started LCHF, I planted 4 cherry trees, 3 plum trees, 2 apple trees, and 2 pear trees on my property!
I must be a real sucker for punishment!

I think this is common when starting LCHF especially if you were moderate carb rather than Sad when you started. I had the same thing, I did not miss real pizza (my favorite food as I could have fat head) and did not miss pasta because I have shiritaki noodles. There is no real substitute for fruit except vegetables?! I do eat a lot of mini red peppers. They are pretty sweet especially if added to a salad. Sometimes tomatoes in limited amount

I have a large family so I buy fruit for the kids. I will steal the occassional grape or cherry. I will have a couple of wedges of a clementine but in general I try to avoid it and you get used to it. Raspberries and blackberries are usually available

When we bought our house several years ago, I was gifted 4 different cultivars of figs not common to our area, 2 black (luscious) 1 brown and 1 white. It was Ok until these started bearing last summer. I started keto in April. Now, my neighbors love me.

Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries are part of my diet.
In the past I’ve done a half grapefruit, half small peaches, and more tropical fruit is out. But I’ve even had some tangerines and orange slices in macro count on a slightly higher limit.

PS technically both tomatoes and avocados are fruit.

Recipe for the almond milk smoothie WanaBLean?

(Dawn) #20

I drink La Croix water, all sorts of fruit flavors and that works for me to get the taste of fruit!
