I started Keto on Saturday. I kept my carb intake under 50, but did some further reading and found you should keep it around 15-20. So Sunday I stayed around 20 (good veggies, avocado, salmon, grass fed meats). I am using an app to track my intake.

Last night, I woke in the middle of the night and felt a bit sweaty. Not hot though and I have had a strange, kind of metallic taste in my mouth (also felt the keto headache most of the day and increased water). I have ready this could be going into ketosis, but wanted some opinions from people who have experienced this. Am I in ketosis? Today carbs were at 18 intake!

Also, has anyone had spark while eating the keto diet? I like it for the energy I get!

Hi Ganell and welcome, So that heat episode might have been from eating a lot of leaner protein and not enough fat possibly. Or maybe just an overload of meat which has a thermal effect when digestion is going on. You might be low on electrolytes so the best thing to do is keep up your salt intake. It sounds like you’re probably going into ketosis according to what you posted. That taste should calm down but make sure you’re cleaning your tongue and teeth well, that helps. Your body won’t waste ketones as much after a while in most cases. It sounds like you’re on the right path. :cowboy_hat_face:

Thank you so much for the feedback! I had also used a bad recipe (used coconut sugar, but stated the snack was only 1 net gram). So not as on track as I thought! But tomorrow is another day! I will increase salt intake!

I had smoked salmon and some beef, but most likely a leaner cut! I will try adding in a bit more fat. I don’t generally eat a lot of meat, so definitely could be meat sweats!

All sorts of things.may happen during the next week or so. Your body will be making major changes as it goes from burning carbs to burning fat. Most will be due to withdrawal as you reduce the detrimental hormonal adaptations that were created by a carb based pattern. Nothing to really worry about, just something you go through.

Thank you for the info! I am going to get a keto Meter, but was hoping I was ok track!

I have thyroid disease and really want to get to a healthy weight!

Wait until you try a high stearic acid (a long chain saturated fat) diet. I went from being cold when attempting to fast, to burning up, particularly at night. I have to sleep with fewer covers on now, otherwise I’ll wake up sweating.
