Food truck/festival eating suggestions?

(Amanda ) #1

Hello! I will be heading to an all day music festival this weekend and no outside food is allowed. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on which foods you look for at a festival? Food truck types, etc that may have what I need to stay keto? thank you!!

That’s a tough one. Even the oil they use is likely to be vegetable oil.

There’s always a turkey leg truck at the fair I go to every year. That wouldn’t be bad. Maybe you could ask the fried cheese people to just let you buy the cheese sticks unbattered. Possibly the sausage but no bun. If they have a hamburger one, the hamburger, no bun.

But your probably going to have to compromise on the condiments. That’s about all I can think of top of my head.

That’s a good question. I have one of those coming up for my company’s family day picnic next month and would be interested in the ideas… I was thinking of doing a full casing of the joint before making my decisions. Fortunately, or unfortunately, we’ve done this a few times so I have some ideas of what might be available… And how little eating I will probably be doing at the event.

Might be a fasting day.

If the inevitable taco truck has plates or bowls, get three tacos, eat fillings with forks, dump tortillas.

Hopefully there’s some pork belly there because oh my god, yum. Lol.

Either fast or choose protein based options. Chicken wings (no sauce), Taco Bowls, Hot dogs (only eat the filling) etc.

Drink bottled water. I’d usually go for a bunless hamburger or bbq without any sauce.

I’m not fat adapted enough to be able to fast for the 12 hours I’ll be there or I would!

Just try to find cheeses, meat with no sauces( unless sugar free and fatty) which is likely no.

You might surprise yourself… A pre-eat and a post-eat, and you might very well surprise yourself… you probably fast 12+ hours everyday without even thinking about it.

I agree, if I was going out all day I would eat a bunch of eggs covered in butter, 3-4 pieces of bacon. Also something small and easy to conceal in case of real need is macadamia nuts. And if they would say anything I usually just would say that I have a dietary issue and I need it. But usually a few packs of nuts can be tossed in a purse or pocket simple.

Thanks all! I did just find small bags of macadamia nuts on clearance at target so I’m going to bring one or two and hope they don’t get confiscated.

So, it turned out to be zero problem finding keto at BottleRock, which is a music AND foodie/wine festival.

First meal was a grass-fed burger with bacon and cheddar. I asked for a lettuce wrap and they said no, so I just flipped off the bun and ate! It was a bit undercooked, but still yummy. I had them hold the bbq sauce and carmelized onions.

I needed some caffeine so I found a booth selling this “High Brew” brand cold coffee (it was soooo hot). I asked if they had any without sugar and they did not, but one of them only had one gram sugar so I went for that. It was tasty, cold and full of caffeine = perfect.

For dinner, I found a local restaurant booth called Bounty Hunter and they had shredded beer can chicken on a bed of lettuce (or roll) with what they called “Alabama Q” sauce. I had to look it up. Here is the recipe I found for Alabama Q white sauce - this is keto friendly right? or did I mess up?

INGREDIENTS
1 cup mayonnaise
ÂĽ cup apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon hot chili paste (such as sambal oelek)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon celery seeds
ÂĽ teaspoon Aleppo pepper or ÂĽ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
ÂĽ teaspoon cayenne pepper
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Probably wouldn’t mess with ketosis, be aware store made mayos have sugar and other things in it. It’s fine in a pinch but I mostly avoid them.

(Ashley) #14

Glad you found some easy keto options :):grinning:

(Amanda ) #15

VERY good to know! THANKS!! I make my own at home so I can stick with that. It did taste a little sweet to me, after 3 weeks of no sugar.

(Ashley) #16

Yep, artificial sweeteners even taste super sweet to me now, I use zipfizz and that’s an adjustment

It’s probably not worth the cost.
