Should I still have a foggy headache on day 8? Yesterday’s stats were blood ketones 5.3 & BS 71. I put 5 grams of Perfect Keto EK in my coffee this morning and I wonder if that has something to do with it. I haven’t felt this way everyday since I got my mojo meter and got serious about Keto on 10/1. My ketones have been climbing daily.
Foggy Headache
Thank you Ernest. I’ve been drinking mineral water and I am putting 1/8 teaspoons of BASE electrolyte salts directly on my tongue, but maybe not often enough. How do I know how much to use?
I got terrible migraines in the beginning. I found that when I put pink salt on my tongue and let it dissolve, that would make my migraine go away. I finally bought sodium chloride tablets, 1gram each, and take those 3 times a day. I no longer get migraines.
The electrolyte solution that one company I worked for used to provide on hot days came with instructions to drink until the solution stopped tasting good. That meant you had drunk enough. If you drink broth, whether home-made bone broth, or instant stock from cubes, the same principle should apply.
Thank you. I will try this too. I’m hoping to heal migraines with the ketogenic lifestyle.
FWIW I don’t know if you are using any artificial sweeteners or not but I was and found that Xylitol gave me a horrendous headache. Stopped using Xylitol and headache disappeared. It was the only sweetener that did that to me and I had tried several.
I’m really sensitive to sugar alcohols too. I have used swerve recently with erythritol and I am still trying to figure out if it is bothering me. I don’t think that is it because I have had days after eating a fat bomb made with swerve that I haven’t had a headache. I just added the supplement P5P and I am wondering if that might be it. I really thought I was turning the corner. I REALLY need to feel the miracle on the other side of induction :-(.
Just because you’re taking EK doesn’t mean you are using the ketones. They might be swirling around in your blood at 5.4 and not metabolising. Keep up your fat and give it a few weeks yet. It gets better …
I think it may be the erythritol. I hate that because the sweet treats have really helped me since I really don’t like a lot of keto foods like eggs and even most meats. I’m struggling a bit with eating the same things all the time.
I am not all together surprised you have high ketone readings if you are throwing EK into your system. What you are seeing on that meter though is what is leftover and floating round your system. You need to be using them and that takes your body a bit of time to adapt to. I would cut the EK and just let your body produce its own and see what happens. Take adequate salt and magnesium. Eat plenty of potassium-rich foods.
It would certainly be worth to strip back down to basic whole foods for a few weeks, just to get your body where it needs to be and get through the cravings. Then go from there.
I actually only used a half tsp of the Perfect Keto EK which wasn’t even half a scoop. I only did it one day to make a Mocha flavored coffee. I am feeling better now and I think I was just still adapting. Today is two weeks for me. Thanks.
