Hey ladies!!
So I started keto 34 days ago and my cycle was regular before when I was eating carbs, and sugar.
I was about 30-35 days every month and tracked it every month so I knew something was up when it was my “normal” time for aunt flo to visit and no period!
I was "late"1/2/ 3/4/5/6 days and I thought “oh no! Could I be pregnet?!” so I took a test and it was negetive!
The stress went away but I was still “late” 7/8 days! And I was stressing and googling like crazy! Note to self its a BAD idea because it causes so much stress!
Today (9 days “late”) I woke up, had my creamy coffee and did cardio and SURPRISE!
I finally got my period!!
So if you are like me, and just started keto, and are late for your monthly visit with aunt flo, dont freak out!
You will get it, dont stress because your hormones and your body are getting use to this WOE.
Thought I would tell my story to help anyone that is going through this.
Xoxo
First month keto and my period
Yes! In my first few weeks of Keto I hadn’t read about the hormonal effects especially during the adaptation phase. I had the opposite experience. My periods were so erratic pre Keto. My period began two whole weeks early. I was shocked and a little irritated. But since that first one 7 months ago my cycle lasts exactly 29 days, period is light and only three days. I have bad PMS 5 days before my period starts but no cramps or gas like I used to have. I can now feel cramping when I ovulate, and I notice predictable fluctuations in my mood and energy levels throughout the month. I love it. I never expected keto could do this for me.
So glad you’ve posted this, as I also have had an experience six weeks into keto with my period. I have an IUD so I rarely get a period at all, but after 6 weeks on Keto (and feeling great!) I got my period and it’s continued for two weeks! I have lost 18 lbs since January 5th, but nothing since this period started. Obviously there are hormonal changes and healing taking place, and I know the women on the “Femail” episode of the podcast mentioned this would level off… BUT I’d still love anyone’s feedback and advice! Thank you in advance!
I too have an IUD and rarely got a period before keto. Within 5 days of keto I got my period. I’ve had it monthly since, (3 months in). This last month it was long (8 days or so) but light. So my hormones are definitely still regulating. I can’t wait (weight?
lol) for my hormones to finish balancing out. I’ve lost about 12 pounds, but most of that was the 1st week, with only about a pound a month since. I’ve been listening to Shawn Minor’s Keto for Women Podcast (in addition to the Femail episode) and know that eventually I’ll get back to losing. I just wish I’d found this in my teens, so I could have spent the last 30 years with balanced hormones. It would probably have spared me a lot of crazyness. (PCOS and type 2 run in my family) In the meantime I’m just hanging tight because I know this will fix me in the long run, it’s just hard to be patient, because I want the results now. lol.
