First fast was 38 days... wonder how I will do this time ;)

Funny you should ask.

They rescheduled for Saturday… I was annoyed at first but it gives me the chance to practice recipes.

I had Courgette (Zuchini) Fettuccini with Alfredo sauce last night. It was good but the fat content was still a little high for my digestion at this point.

Anyhow, my fast will resume on Saturday night.

How are you doing Beth?

(Beth) #42

Fasted several days, had one refeed meal last night, of bacon, olives, tuna w mayo and nuts.
Back to fasting for several more days. I’m trying to do the block fasting that worked for @4dml. It averages out to one meal a week. Steady losses without the risks of really extended fasting. I had no problems doing a two week fast, but I guess better safe than sorry. It seems to relieve other people close to me who worry sometimes about how long I fast.

Please keep us posted. It will be very interesting to hear your results.

(Beth) #44

Down 22 pounds using your method, 13 to goal! Thank you so much! My blood glucose, ketones and gki all stay within excellent ranges after keto refeeds.
After that meal, todays numbers are 74 bg, 4.9 k, .84 gki.

Those are awesome results!
It looks like eating didn’t effect your state of ketosis at all, a good sign of metabolic health.

When can we expect your runway model debut?

(Beth) #46

Maybe I’ll post before and after photos. I’m really motivated because we’re getting married Aug. 1st. I look good in the dress, but still. Those photos live forever, lol!
BTW, if I eat carbs in a refeed, my results are very similar to what you have posted. Regain runs 5-8 pounds, and bg runs in the 90 to 105 range. It takes three or four days of fasting to get AM fasting bg back down to 70.

That is a compelling “why”.
The new challenge will be to come back here in 20 years and post a pic showing that you still fit in your wedding dress even with 4 kids and a demanding husband!

(Beth) #48

I am so grateful to have found something that works for me. And funny you mention the motivation of a good ‘why’.
Last night I remembered your post about spending time going over your ‘whys’ so I am writing a new list that breaks out the whys from the goals and action steps.
On my next FL vacation I’ll stop by so we can get a photo of you looking like an MMA fighter and me looking like Halle Berry.:grinning:

Hey Mike, just checking in. How are things going?
I had a high fat refeed, back at it, about to hit 100 hours. I feel great, and plan to keep going as long as I can.

Day 2

Hi Beth

I had a few days where I ate really high fat Keto meals just to get a taste for it but I am back to fasting now.

Interestingly, after eating Keto and beginning to fast again I am not hungry at all.

What surprised me the most was that I had a lot of energy when eating the fats, which bodes well for me starting to fast again.

It actually feels like I never stopped fasting… saying that, I am only 2 days in

Glad to be back and glad you are doing so well.

Mike

Day 4

Feelin good

(Beth) #52

Excellent! I had dinner with friends Saturday night. Back to fasting now. Really went to lose my last ten pounds.

Day 5

At this point I usually feel weak e.g. when walking up stairs but this isn’t the case so I think eating Keto and going back to fasting is a good way to go for me.

I took my family to the cinema and was surprised at the urgency I felt to eat something. I didn’t cave but it shows how I have trained myself to eat junk at the cinema… a bit like Pavlov’s dogs.

Anyhow, I am feeling good at this point.

Day 5 PM

OMG: I am absolutely starving… of course it can’t be real hunger at this stage but wow, I am so hungry I could eat the butt out of a low flying duck.

I haven’t experienced this before on long fasts so my theory is that eating a high fat keto diet gave my body the energy it needed and after 5 days my stores are getting low and my body is resisting the transition to burning my body fat.

… or I am just dehydrated but I don’t think I am.

(Beth) #55

Hang in there!!!
When that happens to me, it helps to eat a tablespoon of fat: butter or coconut oil usually.
Or I drink hot broth cut by half with water.
You can always eat later. Keep going and see what helps it to pass!

Keep it up - you’ve got this!

I’m done with day 5 of my fast, and all is well except I’ve got a pretty bad headache that’s not responding much to meds. I want to eat, but it’s a manageable craving. I’m concerned about my head though. I got more than enough water and salt/potassium, so I dunno what’s up. Hoping I feel better in the morning!

(Mike Ratcliffe) #57

You should be fine to take paracetamol for a headache whilst fasting… no need to suffer.

Of course, it is a personal choice though.

Day 7

Feeling fine again… I had drank some pepsi max yesterday, which doesn’t normally cause a blood sugar spike for me. I suspect that is what made me so hungry.

I am a little annoyed that later in the week I need to go to a business dinner :frowning:

It means a couple of days refeed then the dinner. For a couple of days after a fast I have erm… toilet issues so I can’t just refeed the day before.

It is a little annoying but I guess it is the healthiest way to fast as long as I keep coming back to fasting between events in my social calendar.

Anyhow, at the moment still doing fine.
