Doing my first fast to get myself back into ketosis. I had some medical things I had to do yesterday so I unwilling had to eat things for the procedure that took me way out of ketosis. I’m 20 hours in. I know it’s hard when you’ve had a lot of carbs. If it gets bad I will eat ketogenic. Any tips for me?
First fast for me!
Just mean in regard to helping not feel anything, anything I can have that won’t kick me out of ketosis that will help?
If you feel hunger, just eat some butter or something that is pure fat…Anything that doesn’t spike insulin will help.
I’ve seen people say about chicken broth is that a yay or nay? I have chicken bouillon cubes not sure if them are alright?
Home made chicken bone broth is delicious and easy. Especially if you buy rotisserie chicken from the grocery. A carcass from one chicken (after you have eaten the meat) will make an pot of 4-8 cups (depends on your pot). And chicken bones don’t take as long to cook up as beef. Save up bones in the freezer until you have enough if you want to make a big batch. But this may not apply in you situation this time as its your first fast.
Boullion cubes can be tricky - check the carb content per cube/spoon. But I’m pretty sure folks use them occassionally without difficulty. You just have to see how your body responds. Good luck with the fast. Maybe let us know how long you are intending, and how fat adapted you think you might be. For first one, might want to keep it relatively short.
Depends upon your objective and comfort level, but probably not much. Don’t make it a competition. If you’re happy at 24 - then let it be that. If you’re on a roll, not hungry and feeling good - go for the 36 if it feels right. I think what is more important is to learn to listen to your body and what works for you. If you try and take on too much too fast, you might get discouraged and quit altogether. Baby steps
Just 24 hours for the first one. Already broke it and it went fine! I have been doing keto since mid March. Took it more serious since March 23. I had a procedure done on Thursday that kicked me way out of ketosis so I’m just trying to get back in it.
That’s what happened with me, I wanted to do a longer fast but my body told me I was hungry so I decided that was okay, especially because I work nights and did not want to not listen to my body and become ill. My goal is to lose weight, but my health is top priority.
better to do 2-3 24 hrs weekly for the whole year - thats over 100 days of fasting.
If you get peer pressured into going for a mega long fast and are miserable and give up - your total fasting for the year - a few days
You decide which is better! The best fasting and feasting routine is the one that works for you!
For me its going to be 3.5 days fasted, 3.5-5.5 days feasted… And that is what I am thinking now - that may change too!!
Yeah I’m doing OMAD 23 hour fasting, 1 hour eating. Also will be mixing in a two meals a day every few days just to mix things up for my body!
