First extended fast! T1

#1

Hi,!

So, this has been my longest fast to date, i’m currently on hour 57! ending tomorrow at 13.00.
I have mainly been drinking water, tea and chewing unsweetened gum. I’m a T1 thus i’ve been hesitant to start or try an extended fast due to blood sugar crashes at night etc, nevertheless this has opened my eyes.

Haven’t felt any real hunger since I started , my blood sugar has been AWESOME- almost a straight line! I have had to do a lot of temporary basal rates and suspensions as well (decrease for the most part but increase at times too.), love my pump and cgm for this reason <3

insulin has changed as follows:

started at 19 units of insulin which is not unusual for me nevertheless a little low, yesterday at 13U, and currently 8 (most likely 10-12 counting the 3-4 hours remaining of the day )

These values are for the entire day, couldn’t be more happy!

like i said, it really opened my eyes, and im considering doing this monthly and jump on the zorn fast. For next time i’m going to lay of the gum thou… may have overdone it at times … ooo-well ( did not affect my blood sugar thou.)

Great outcome. I really would not know how to advise a type 1 on fasting protocols.

But I am sure with a cgm and pump that is a lot easier to manage.

Good for you! I could not make it past 28 hrs… Mental of course:)

I found my basal needs continued to be low after breaking. Good job staying ahead of the lows too!

Thanks, yeah this is awesome. I actually went lower on the totalt basal yesterday, ended at 9.5U which is better than I thought!

Also got through a stall and increased insulin sensitivity :raised_hands: the reason for the fast. Hallelujah!

At night I had to suspend for 2.5 h to not go to low. Also through out the day but that was easier to control.
I was also working the entire time which made it easier in some ways.

This was my line for the past 24h
