Had some blood work done right before starting and then again this week. I’ve been very strict on keto (1 cheat meal since starting over 2 months ago), and most of my results are improving.
Lost 30 pounds
Trig down from 220 to 156 (mg/dL)
Trig/HDL down from 4.89 to 3.47
Glucose and A1C are good (98 and 5.1%, respectively)
VLDL down from 70 to 31 (mg/dL)
LDL and total cholesterol are up some (but I expected that)
My concern is that fasting blood insulin went up (from 10.5 to 11.8 uIU/mL). I didn’t expect that. Any ideas? Thanks!
First blood work after starting keto - insulin went UP?

That’s a snapshot in time. It’s ALWAYS moving around. Watch trends not just a measurement here and there.

Thanks! For some reason, I thought fasting blood insulin level was one of the markers that showed a good average over time … like A1c. Didn’t realize that this was another one that fluctuated a lot. Guess I’ll keep checking every quarter. Thanks for the explanation.
