I finally broke down and scheduled my first 5k run. It’s near the end of Sept so I have time to train. I figure it’ll be a mixture of walking and running - emphasis on the walking. But the fact I am going to do it at all is a huge nsv for me.
First 5k
That is wonderful, a 5k is one of my goals also. I am still only around 2 miles before I (think I am going to ) die…
You’re up on me. I’m lucky if I can run a minute and a half. I’ve been building up to it by jogging up the mountain some when I hike.
Yeah, I’d say some. I haven’t figured out a pattern. I had to jog/run down the mountain the other day because a wind and lightning storm came barreling down. Didn’t have much choice there. But it was downhill at least.
That’s my method , I try to slow jog up and some days about mid way I walk a couple of hundred yards then get back to jogging then run back towards the car, lol …
Baby steps. That’s what it has to be sometimes. I have an app that’s supposed to slowly build you up to a 5k from nothing.
Awesome! Running/jogging can really be addictive (in a good way). That is one of my goals too! In October there is a 5k walk/run I plan to participate in. Last year I just walked it, this year I want to jog it! Then in February I’m signed up for the Disney Princess 5k in Orlando! My sister is going to do the whole weekend, which is 5k on Friday, 10K on Saturday, and a 1/2 marathon on Sunday. She is in very good shape and has been running for a few years now. But OMG I would just die. But I hope to build up to that in the next couple of years!!!
Wow. That is impressive. Any one of those events would be tough. But three? Is she the Bionic Woman? For me the 5k will be relatively hard but not impossible. The really hard part is getting pledges from my friends.
She kind of is… lol She is a certified yoga instructor, been teaching 15 years. And she started running around 5 years ago. Always been fit… earned her 2nd Dan in Tae Kwon Do as a teen, then moved to the yoga right around 30. I have started to do yoga too, so I’ve only been doing it for 7 months now. It’s great. But she has the stamina of an OX!! I’m not worthyyyyy… >:>
Of course you are. You share the same genes. It may take some time but you will get there. Hey, she only started running 5 years ago. That’s not that long ago.
You inspired me! I just signed up for one too! The Rocky Balboa race in Philly in November. Let the training commence!
