First 24 hour fast. Not going so well

I am a 50+ female with no health issues. I started Keto on February 17, 2017. I have lost about 10 lbs total. I am working on my first 24 hour fast. After listening to the podcast with Megan Ramos, I feasted yesterday (until last night about 9pm) and have not eaten today. Today, I have no energy, my brain is foggy and I’m having a hard time putting sentences together. I am wondering if it is too soon on my Keto journey to start fasting. I listened to another podcast today where a statement was made by a listener that you just know when you are fat adapted. I understand the concept, but never really had that moment on this diet yet. Should I abandon this fast and try again later?

If this was me … I would stop. My gut is telling me you are pretty low on sodium. But I’m not a doctor and I’m not giving medical advice. So … again if it was me I would stop. Then I would research more on what to do to prepare, what needs to be on hand and start with maybe a 12 hour fast first and go from there.

Edited for clarification ~ This is IMHO. I haven’t attempted a 24 hour fast or any fast for that matter because I’m a food hound LOL … I’m just trying to help and relay what I’ve read.

Sodium was my first thought. I usually supplement with a teaspoon of salt, split into 2 servings per day. I’ve already had 1 serving today and have been sucking on pink sea salt. I’m considering a bone broth concoction with a pat of butter to see if that helps. I have done 16:8 with no problem before, but today I just seem “off”.

I’m a similar age and also female and have been fasting for 22 hours once a week since the start of the year. Going well so far  I have my last food at 7pm on Sunday evening and break my fast with a very small snack at 5pm on Monday evening (usually cheese). Then have my main meal at 7pm. I haven’t found it it too hard - but some weeks are tougher than others. I find it a great freedom not thinking about food on Monday. Maybe you should start with a short fast, say until your midday meal. I had been doing this for many months before trying the 22 hour fast and I really think it helped. The jump to dinner time was just another step. I hope you find something that works for you.

another 50+ female chiming in here. Have you tried the keto-ade posted by Brenda? it’s half a TBSP mag citrate and 1/8 tsp lite salt IIRC. Provides sodium, magnesium, and potassium, don’t have the amounts handy for you tho. I actually find I feel better with two of these a day.

No I haven’t. I’ll have to look it up. I normally take a Magnesium supplement daily, but I don’t take anything for potassium. Thanks for the head up.
