Few queries about symptoms on starting

Hi, I started a Keto diet about 8 weeks ago, got about 3 weeks in and fell off the wagon. I was pretty ill with what felt like a chest infection so binned it and have just started again 2.5 weeks ago.

I’m eating pretty much carnivorous with the odd bit of salad (like a few leaves as garnish not whole salads and the occasional Bolognaise type sauce with some mince or meatballs. Well under 20g a day and monitoring this,

I’ve noticed a few things that I don’t know if they are related and would like to know if this is likely diet relate or coincidence!

  1. I seem to have developed a dairy allergy. Eaten dairy all my life but in cutting down on other food types I’ve noticed that every time I now have some dairy since cutting down on carbs my chest tightened up, sometimes I feel like I’m having an asthma attack. This occurs with even just a bit of cheese like 20g and happens in 10-15 mins after eating, maybe sooner . Thing is I’ve always eaten dairy and this seems severe enough that I’d have noticed before, I’m fairy fit so not being able to breathe is noticeable!

  2. I seem to have red patches occasionally on my cheeks next to my nose.

  3. When I sit at my desk I start feeling quiet tired and like I don’t need want to move, as soon as I’m up and about I feel full of energy but it’s like my body is taking the opportunity when I’m at rest to dial back and then when I’m either exercising or just moving about it’s turns everything back on. Is this normal?

4.Sometimes I feel awesome sometimes awful and lacking energy, will this stabilise?

  1. Hydrating seems to make me feel better in 5 mins does this go away or just something I have to get used to staying on top of.v

I’ve noticed this too. I’ve always eaten dairy but now I seem to break out with acne, stall weight wise and just feel awful when I have it. I dunno if I’ve developed it or I’ve always had it pre keto but didn’t notice it was a trigger because I felt crap all the time anyway :woman_shrugging:t2: I just know that now I feel much better when I avoid it. No.2 could be keto rash??

when you switch to low carb diet your microbiota changes very quickly . Some say within 2 to 3 days.

So if the bacteria that breaks down fiber or lactose for instance is not there you will feel pain until your bacteria society re establish again.

I tolerate salads all my life but after keto, greens hurt me very badly.

I am not sure if anyone or if even the research media can tell you what kind of microflora you will end up with when you change the diet.

Makes sense  thanks

Thanks,

So I’m hoping that if I re introduce cheese slowly I will be able to tolerate again.

Odd that I suddenly flipped that way as no change in my dairy eating throughout transition!

I am new to keto. I started on Monday on day four I am experiencing weakness, muscle spasms in my lower back, and no energy. Is this related to the diet. I have type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. I skipped lunch because I was to nauseaious to eat. What do you recommend for the spasms. What am I lacking?

I’d say salt. Check out ketoaid.

I noticed a tightening in my chest occasionally since starting keto. Question… When you notice your symptoms from dairy, did the dairy accompany a high fat meal?

I got spasms too and started taking an electrolyte supplement. Natural calm( magnesium-on amazon), Nu salt(potassium) and a twist of pink salt. All better now😉 hope that helps!

Ok I upped my intake of salt and bought some magnesium tablets. It’s been 3days and just starting to feel better. I really had full blown flu. I toughed it out and now ready for the next hurdle
