Hi everybody.
I have been Keto for 3 weeks now. First 2 weeks were quite exciting but this week has been harder. Definitely feeling better in many ways but struggle with nausea after most meals. I used to think I was hungry but how can I be after a nice big Keto meal! Any tips please?
I am doing Keto for freedom from IBS, tiredness and migraines.
Feeling nauseous everyday
Try more salt
Try more potassium foods.
Peppermint anything (more concentrated the better) is good for IBS and nausea.
Ginger is good for nausea as well.
If you dont want weight loss, dietdoctor.com LCHF might be the best for you.
Is peppermint essence ok to add to drinks?
Just wondering because there is Glycerine Alcohol in it (35%)
Doesn’t sound great for Keto.
Peppermint tea is a starter peppermint.
Health food stores have mega strong peppermint capsules etc.
For IBS, a good probiotic like Jarrows FOS (needs refrigeration) works wonders for many. It was a game-changer for my low-carb, IBS daughter, and it’s available on amazon (200 capsules for $25; one a day).
Hi Vicky!
I also have severe IBS-D. Fats have been um, interesting to say the least but I am not going to quit!
I have had intermittent nausea when having IBS flares- I have a few suggestions:
-chop up some lemon and lime and keep it in a baggies with you- when you start to feel a tiny bit nauseous, inhale deeply.
-ginger tea or a piece of fresh ginger before meals to prevent nausea later on.
-peppermint tea (I avoid because it gives me terrible heartburn). My GI doctor swears by it though!
-this is bonkers but it works and I have no idea why. When nauseated, smell rubbing alcohol. It makes the nausea go away immediately. I keep individual packets in my purse all the time.
-if you are in the US; my favorite OTC antinausea is called meclizine. Brand name is Bonine. I take 25-50 mg depending on the severity of the nausea. It can make some people drowsy so if you try this I would take a dose to see if it affects you in any way.
-lastly, my GI prescribes me Zofran dissolvable tabs that go under the tongue at the first sign of nausea.
For me, catching the nausea when it first starts creeping in is the key to squashing it fast!
I hope you feel better soon!
Thanks Jen.
Appreciate your suggestions.
I’m actually from good old New Zealand
I used to suffer from nausea in the beginning, peppermint tea, ginger tea helped. But also adding in lots of green leafy veg, tomatoes etc really helped. A nice green salad with avo, olives, olive oil, tomatoes, feta & tuna was my go to when nausea set in.
That’s encouraging to hear that you ‘used to’
Thanks
When did it come right for you?
