Feasting/Fasting Cycles

#1

Day 45 for me in keto here. After my first spontaneous fast lasted 68 hours and was a wonderful Life changing success, I decided to experiment with cycling of feasting and fasting every three days, or so. Inspired by podcast #58

After three days of eating whatever keto food I wanted, whenever I wanted, I had my second fast, due to a party I had planned weeks ago I only went 48 hours, and then 3 days of feasting again. No macros were counted, no limits were set beyond keto food.

Last night around 8pm was my last bite for The next three days or so, which lines me up very nicely for three days of feasting until Sunday evening, so that when I get my blood drawn Monday afternoon, I will be only 12 or so hours fasted.

While “fasting” I allow myself to have as much coffee and tea with salt and heavy cream or coconut oil as I want, drink plenty of water alternating with salt-added + zero calorie flavor. I also will drink a diet soda occasionally if I want to, and if I really start to feel funny in my head or weak in my muscles I will heat up some of my bone broth and drink that.

Anyone have experience doing regular extended fasting and feasting cycles like this? Any thoughts or concerns about what I consume during fasting? I know the general consensus around here is to get off the sweeteners, but I use them regularly and don’t see that really disappearing any time soon.

I would say it’s too soon to report back any results, but I’m hoping I can really break through this low weight floor I’ve been hovering around. I also really want good blood test results.

It’s a little early to give results. My overall trend is down, but the scale jumps around up and down 3 lbs every couple days. My main goal right now is to have good blood test results and see if I can get below this low weight floor I have been hovering around

Three to four days of fasting is an ideal timeframe for autophagy to reach it’s peak.

Sound like you have a good approach!

It sounds like a loosely timed version of the Feldman Protocol - you might want to read up on that if you want your numbers to be REALLY good. I have actually thought about doing something similar, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for your results.

Well, I didn’t even make it 24 hours in this third fast. I was trying to ignore my hunger but it wouldn’t let me. I couldn’t concentrate on my studying and eventually gave up. It is a little disappointing but at the same time it was an arbitrary goal I put on myself just to see if I could and being so distracted seemed like a very stupid thing to do for no reason.

It surprised me a little because the first two fasts were so easy! But I’m just going to stop doing arbitrary designated fasting times for a little while and see him long/if my body becomes ready to fast again.

I guess I took a little more off than I could chew. Will power!
