Favorite thing to say when someone asks why you aren't eating?

I am sitting at a faculty lunch meeting and have had 3 people ask me why I wasn’t eating…

What do you like to tell people when they ask? Tell them you are fasting or keep it a secret?

I give them another excuse, I’m a little scarred from my boyfriend’s mother sitting him down and telling him I had an eating disorder and couldn’t see it.

I tell them - even if I suspect they don’t really know what “fasting” is. “I’m not eating anything today,” is one of my frequent comments, and if they’re still questioning - a brief description of needing to lose weight, try for lower blood sugar, etc., usually suffices.

Perhaps with a little humor, i.e. “I’ve eaten enough for a couple lifetimes already.” Really have not gotten many responses like, “You have to eat,” or “You’d do better with many small meals.”

I tell them that I’m not hungry.

Most days I go to the gym (conveniently located down the hall from our office) or go for a walk outside. If I stay in the office, I tell my colleagues the truth- that my BPC in the morning results in no hunger at “lunchtime”. Many think I’m crazy, but it doesn’t bother me a bit!

I usually just panic and spill the beans (just not into my mouth). Though, now mostly everyone I interact with knows the deal. Coworkers, friends, family, etc.

Could just say you’re eating ketones. Then wait for the “what the f*** is a ketone?”…

Fasting is Fight Club.
Sometimes I put my bone broth in a mug and say I’m sipping my soup.

Tell them you saw the kitchen

I already ate (five days ago).

I always abide by the first rule of fasting : don’t talk about it. My immediate family knows. To everyone else, I tell them I ate a late breakfast or lunch and I’m not hungry. The thing is I don’t really lie, I’m not hungry because I’m still eating the breakfast or lunch from a decade ago .

“Just following doctor’s orders. Thank you for caring!”

I say that I’m fasting for health reasons. Then they are too afraid to say anything else, worrying about what horrible disease I may have.

^^^^^^
This!

Lol! For me, it used to start with “no thanks!” Then I would go to “no thanks, I’m not hungry”, then finally after being prodded to eat something I’d finally fess up to fasting.

Now I just outright say I’m fasting, and it shuts down the guilt trip from others real quick! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
