Fat intake question

(David Arias) #1

Hello! I’m three months in and down 35 pounds down. Is there a point when I should start to scale back my fat intake. When I started I was at 299lbs and now down to 264. I have been sticking to my starting macros. I have read a lot of info but seems like it’s all different opinions. Do I need to continue to hit the high fat intake or at this point do I minimize my fat. Thanks for any help.

All of the calculators are based on estimates and averages, if you are still losing, no sense in changing. If you start slowing drop your cals a little.

Thanks for the reply! Seems like I read somewhere that I should be cutting fat way down. Just kinda confused me.

Fat is the main part of the diet…

Thanks for the reply. I understand that fat is the main point of this diet. Guess I just need to be careful where I find my answers. Glad I joined this forum. Have found a lot of useful info.

Yep, you’re doing great! I’m 2+ years in and stI’ll eat a lot of fat. I’m close to maintenance and find that if I eat a meal that isn’t high fat, I get hungry sooner. I like not being hungry!

I always hear it said to “keep carbs below 20g/day, protein scaled to your body mass, and fat to satiety.” Because of the calorie obsessed culture we live in, it feels like we have to pay attention to that number in our “diet.” If you eat fat to satiety, it doesn’t significantly boost your blood sugar. It seems prudent to learn to listen to our bodies and if you’re hungry, eat. If you’re not, don’t.
Nice work on the loss! Sounds like you’re doing great.

Hey @David1kristin.
You’re doing great.
I agree there is a lot of conflicting information out there. There are some basic principles of the ketogenic diet though. Like @Jennie said, the basics are "keep below 20 grams carbohydrate per day, protein to maintain your lean body mass, and fat to satiety "
I would add the most important thing is n=1, and never stop researching.
The ketogenic diet works by regulating hormones, not CICO.

Hey dude. Imo if you are losing weight at a clip of 35 lbs every three months then why change? When and if you stall in rhe future you may try to consider keeping the calories up but fasting sometimes, intermittently or for 1-3 days or more. It’s truly amazing the changes ive seen in myself. Youre doing great. Don’t be fat-phobic (be carb-phobic) and your chances of success are great.
