Fat fast macros

(Luke Jorgensen) #1

Hi guys,

I am 28, 174cm, 82.5kg with 14kg of body fat and a BMR of 1873kcal. Im not, nor ever have been, diabetic or pre-diabetic. I use keto to keep healthy.

I am wanting to do a 3 day fast. By my research, I need to consume approx 110g of fats during my fast so my metabolism doesn’t drop according to the calculator here. Apparently I may also need to consume some protein to feed my brain.

In light of this, instead of doing a legitimate fast with 0kcals, do I need to just have a couple of “low calorie” days?

Cheers,

Unless you’re doing a fat fast, or using fats to help your body learn how to fast…

All depends on your goals.

I have done several fat fasts. 3-4 days max for me. The first day I ate quite a bit, the second wasn’t very hungry so ate half my intended amount, 3rd day, coffee bit of cream. Just did what felt right. Many ways to fast. Just water for a classic fast. Good luck!

Most of my fasts are fat supported fasts but I don’t measure anything, just have a fatty coffee first thing and that’s it.

I encourage you to read the Obesity Code and/or Dr. Fungs The Complete Guide to Fasting. In both books (or even on the podcasts) he explains the science behind fasting.
No, your metabolism will not drop, it will actually increase if you stick to just water.
Your brain will function on ketones, even better than than protein or sugar.
If you simply reduce your intake to minimal fat and protein, you will risk a metabolism slow down, because your body may begin to function as if you have a calorie deficit (starvation).
