Hi all. Quick question for the more knowledgeable here. Currently 4 weeks into my keto diet so not yet fat adapted.
Working on the assumption that it takes 8 to 12 to become fat adapted what would happen if I was to have a slip up and fall out of ketosis, would the fat adaption process then go back to week one once my body is back in ketosis or would the process pick up from where I left off? As far as I am aware I’ve not had a slip ups (although my keto sticks always show as “low”) is just something I thought about and can’t find the answer via Google. Thanks.
Fat adaption process
Depends on how big and how long the slip up! You will be back in ketosis the next day but I don’t think anyone can say how it will impact the adaptation process as so little is known about it and that it seems different for everyone. I know when I have tested carbs it regularly causes issues for 3-4 days so my guess is it will stall adaptation progress somewhere around that long.
Keto sticks worked for me for about 2 weeks and nothing after. My assumption is that the closer you are to fat adapted the lower that number should be as you are utilizing the ketones instead of excreting them.
Ahh that makes sense. I had the same puzzle where I started having lots of ketones by the stick testing - but now, I am on the low side and did not know why. Thanks for the possible answer.
