Fasting & The Perfect Broth

So the Fasting Category is my new favourite…
I have graduated from Newbies, and if I have to read one more quote about keto flu or how to get into ketosis, I might just eat a potato. Not that I don’t love welcoming newbies, I’m here to learn and I think I have absorbed as much as I can from that section.
So this is my new home!
I’ve been doing some research from all the old threads, and it seems people are much more able to survive a fast with some broth.
I made a broth the first time I started Keto and it was so crap, apparently there are tricks of the trade like cooking the bones first etc.
I’m attempting a 3 day right now, and I only have water, coffee and ketoaide.
I just read a post from somoene who did a 20 day water fast with astonishing results.

My questions are;

Do you think having broth is imperitive to an extended fast?
If so, what is your perfect recipe? Do I cook the bones? Please help me lol.
What’s better? Chicken or beef?
Can you drink as much of it as you want?
And why can’t I just drink stock? LOL!

  • I hear you!!

I don’t have the experience of extended fasting, but I’m reading Fung’s book and plan on EF soon. For now I am alternate day fasting MWF.

I’m replying because Dr. Fung has specific info in his book concerning bone broth, which he advocates. He says that bone broth contains phosphorus and other proteins and electolytes which reduce the chances of developing refeeding syndrome. Also, unlike stock, bone broth contains gelatin, which is beneficial for those with arthritis or joint problems.

I bought some oxtail bones recently. They’re still frozen, but I plan on making broth before I attempt EF.
