Fasting - Proper Glucose and Ketone Levels

(Moragh Lippert) #1

I’m on day 3 of my 1st extended fast using water and salt and a bit of bone broth. My numbers have been great til today when I measured:

Ketones 4.6 (last 2 days measured 1.0 and .9 mmol)

Glucose today 3.4 (Canadian values which I converted to61.2 mg/dL in US.

I feel shaky and headachy. Been trying to drink plenty of water and rest.

The numbers sound a bit off = glucose too low and ketone’s too high.

Does anyone have some advice?

About the same kind of numbers I get at that point in a fast. If you’re not feeling great my advice would be to stop. It tends to get easier each time you fast.

Sounds like you need to eat. Shaky and headache is your body telling you something and you need to pay attention.

Day three is when I usually get my lowest BG numbers they then slowly go back up.
If you aren’t used to your blood sugars being at that level it can feel a bit odd. If you feel bad then eat something… it should be a moderately pleasurable experience so if it starts to not feel like that then eat. No-one will be chastising you.
