Fasting in the summer heat

beginner

(Elizabeth ) #1

Hi fasting friends,

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question. I don’t really fast, but I’m thinking about experimenting. Is fasting different in the heat? I’m going to be outside for some school trips, and it would be nice to be able to fast, but I’m worried about being a beginner and doing this in the heat and humidity.

Any advice would be appreciated!

A substantial number of people feel cool or cold while fasting - for them warm weather makes things better. I never feel uncomfortably cold while fasting but it’s great in hot weather, I think - I don’t sweat nearly as much.

Just make sure your electrolytes stay balanced, you usually need even more salt in the summer heat.

I personally would lose my appetite on really hot days before keto and fasting.

As OldDoug mentioned some get cold hands and feet so it is easier in the summer for them.

Best way to find out is go for it.

Good luck!

Thanks @collaroygal and @OldDoug ! I’m feeling more confident about giving this a try!

I just did a 48 hour one and it is summer weather here, my hubby and kids were saying it was very hot outside and I had a hot green tea and wasn’t feeling hot at all; so I think what the guys said above seems very accurate for me as well. I would just make sure you ensure you are drinking enough water, so you won’t get dehydrated, and good luck with it =).

I hope this happens for me! That sounds great!

I find it much easier in warm weather as I always get cold when fasting and that’s awful.

I also get cold. Trying a 36 hour fast, and an already am looking forward to going outside to warm up.

My work are making me sit under an air con unit.
I can’t see I’ll ever be able to fast again…

That’s too bad. And I haven’t found a way to get warm, other than going outside or eating. As soon as I eat, I’m warm. I should take the temperature difference of my hands before, when fasting, and then after eating. I think it might be 5 degrees or so.

I can get warm as long as I can move around, but sat at my desk at work, just not an option. Drinking warm water helps too, that I can do, but on its own it’s not enough to counteract the air con blowing at me constantly.
