I have just surpassed 36 hours on my fast.
I am struggling to understand why my ketones didn’t rise at all from Tuesday lunch time to Wednesday evening. I’m having trouble understanding the correlation between the readings and being fat adapted.
I’m not chasing numbers, I was just curious how high they would raise during fasting considering i’ve had very low blood ketone levels ever since I was fat adapted. I’ve already covered this though so no need to address that.
Is my body using the ketones in my blood efficiently whilst adapted and that’s why my readings aren’t going very high? Gosh does that even make sense lol…
Anyway, I feel high as a kite right now. Very mentally focused, don’t feel hungry at all, have barely felt hunger actually. It’s winter too, and i’m very cold. My toes feel like ice lol. Any advice appreciated

I forgot to say that all I had during my fast was Ketoaide, espresso and soda water. I have not consumed any carbs except for trace amounts in the espresso.
Your body is trying to conserve energy. It’s goal is to keep the internal organs warm, that’s why the limbs get cold.

That explains why I feel so warm in the centre lol.
Im more curious about my other questions though, ketosis seems easy to understand until you throw in fat adaption.
I know - that was your original question. I am working on it, but have only found “This is what happened to my ketones when I fasted” opinion-type articles. Waiting for someone knowledgeable to stop by.

Honestly I have no reason to continue testing. I know I am in ketosis and I know I am fat adapted. This was more of an experiment. I still haven’t broken my fast. I am at work and struggling to decide what to eat. I might break it with some pork rinds, then go get a big breakfast with bacon and eggs and sausages, oh yes ;D
I am wondering if I should also eat again tonight and start the Zorn Fast. Hmmm! Not eating was way easier than I thought it would be. Im so amazed I have come this far.

I also forgot to mention I lost 2.2kg (4.8lbs) during the fast, but expect to put half of it back on lol.
Katie, I think you have highlighted the seeming futility of testing blood ketones except to know that one is in ketosis. As you are healthy and fat adapted your body is totally in tune with your metabolism and only releases enough fat to keep your blood ketones at an adequate level.
However, blood ketone measurement is necessary for Type 1 and possibly late stage Type 2 diabetics…Too high a level of ketones in the blood is a serious medical condition where the blood becomes very acidic. But there seems to be a recommendation out there that all Newbies seem to pick up on that blood ketone measurement is informative when in actual fact most seem to find their results disheartening after fat adaption and not matching the spin.
I don’t have a ketone meter myself but use a breath acetone meter instead. This just tells me what level of ketosis I’m in at the moment ranging from basal, through nutritional, high nutritional and very high. There is also a long thread on the forum about using cheap breathalysers to detect if one is in ketosis which is just as informative as the very expensive blood ketone testing.
Your results, which seem to be typical of healthy fat adapted people, really brings into the question the use of the Glucose Ketone Index as a tool for fighting cancer etc…
Perhaps tracking your blood glucose levels would be a better indicator of your overall metabolic health. I do intend to get a combined Glucose-Ketone meter but mainly so that I can monitor my blood glucose regularly and my blood ketones occasionally.

Thank you for your response @Acetix
I think the testing has become redundant for me now.
I have always had trouble understanding the switch between ketosis and fat adaption and how your regime changes.
Eat less fat now that you are fat adapted?
Is that why I have a low reading, because I am adapted and my body only releases enough fat to keep at an adequate level?
Do people eat more or less calories when adapted, do they change their macro calculations to deficit or maintain?
So many questions… lol.
Anyways, I fasted for 36 hours yesterday and broke my fast at 1pm, when dinner rolled around I was not hungry and ended up just eating a bowl of cream for satiety.
I wanted to do the Zornfast but I was a bit lost, I couldn’t refeed with enough calories to start a 3 day fast. Now i’m stuck in limbo, and might just start another fast tonight.
On a good note, my period finally returned and I broke my stall and maintained that loss to today. 4.8 pound loss.
