Fasting and Supplements

#1

First, my goal with fasting is autophagy and growth hormone elevation to aid in shoulder injury recovery as well as improved body composition if possible. I’m from the bodybuilding/weightlifting world so I consume a ton of supplements. So far, I’m just IFing 18/6 roughly, and eating keto during the 6. Eventually I’ll move on to 24 hour and longer fasts.

I’m basically trying to figure out if anything I’m taking will ruin my goals. I take during the fast:
Agmatine
L-citrulline
Forskolin
Bromelain
Taurine
Rhodiola Rosea
L-theanine
Ferrasorb (iron and b-vitamin cofactors)

Does anyone see anything that may counteract the benefits of fasting? Taurine, agmatine, forskolin, and citrulline all effect insulin, ketones and blood glucose in differing ways that sometimes even conflict with itself (1 study showing this, another showing that).
Any thoughts?

IMO, you should consider setting them aside while you’re fasting. If your goal is autophagy, you need to let your body do its thing. You should only drink water most of the time, with limited amount of coffee or tea. The only supplement you need is salt.

I’d second this. Supplements that are usually necessary on longer fasts are electrolytes; salt, calcium, magnesium, potassium. Maybe even vitamin d3 if there’s not a lot of calories in the one you have. Personally I stick to salt and potassium/magnesium on my usual 5 day fasts and it’s done me well.
