Hi, I am two weeks in with keto woe but been low carb for about 2yrs. I have completed my first 24hr fast and now am doing 16/8 fast most days. Just wanted to touch base with others who are doing the same and how has it helped you.

We know fasting can increase one’s metabolic rate but…how do you know in your case? Curious minds…
Has anyone tested ketone daily during a 7-30 day fast? How high have they gone and where did it plateau? I found only one website where someone gave this info.
I used to be cold all day. Like, literally freezing. This happened after losing weight the CICO way, cutting calories and lots of exercise. I thought I was getting cold because my layer of fat got smaller…BUT when I gained all the weight back, and more, I was still cold.
Losing weight was also very difficult, even on keto. I slowly introduced fasting, first IF and then EF. Increased fasting durations, and lately got to 33 days fasting. Brilliant what the effect was. I’m not cold, I’m a “hot” burning machine, and when I’m not doing fasting I continue to lose. The only way I can explain it is metabolism.
Dr Jason Fung talks about this in his blog and videos. I remember emailing him questions several years ago, when he wasn’t famous. He was so sweet and respond with excellent advice. I don’t bother emailing him today…he looks way too busy.
So, that’s what worked for me…fasting, in combination with fatty fatty keto eating.

Yeah, me too! It is pretty regimented…so I hope I can stick to it. The reduced use of spices, herbs will be a challenge - but, necessary to isolate variables for testing purposes.
I completed a 24hr fast and now doing a 16/8 daily. I am getting somewhere around 5-6 carbs a day and understand that I need to get at least 30g protein at each of my two meals. I’m wondering if it is OK that I only get around 5-6 carbs a day? Does anyone else eat like this?
@tdseest has done extensive tracking of his fasts. His data is available on the FB group (good luck finding it now). Maybe he can post it on the forum too.
Does it matter how long the fast is though? In other words, will 24 hour fastings like 3 different days a week lower metabolic rate? Or do I need to fast at least 48 hours at a time to increase metabolic rate?
