Just finished my 3 day fast. I went into it with fear and trepidation as the last two 48 hour fasts were pretty hard.
But this time I went into it prepared. Made sure my electrolytes were good, I did get cramp a few times in my legs but that just reminded me to have more salt, it sorted it out. I had bone broth ready in the freezer for emergency but didn’t need it.
YES! fasting is a like a muscle and we practice makes us get stronger.
I am on Keto for my health, I have reactive hypoglycaemia, so basically every time I was eating carbs my body was producing too much insulin that would make my hypo without actually being diabetic. I was having hypos (hypo is BG below 3.9 my lowest was 2.8) daily before this WOE.
I couldn’t work full time (I’m in military), I couldn’t look after my children and I slept about 15 hours a day with the doctors not knowing what was wrong with me for 6 months. After having numerous BG tests (all the symptoms of diabetes with no high bloods) thyroid tests (All perfect) I luckily got referred to an endocrinologist that was a specialist in diabetes (and insulin disorders) and then a great dietitian who suggested keto!!
I am not overweight (would like to lose about 10 pounds but not a priority) I ran half marathons (going to start again soon) and have always eaten healthy. Life is just a bummer. However keto has controlled my RH and as a side effect it’s actually brought me out of a depression. I’ve had PND for a few years and after a month of keto it was the first clarity of thought I’ve had in a very long time, I’ve halved my depression meds come off metformin completely and my insulin should hopefully be helped with the fasting.
Thanks to
The 2ketodudes podcast. My husband would never of let me do a 3 day fast previously, he used to hate it even when I missed breakfast. But after I put the fasting podcast on in the car, he was on board, and he now doesn’t complain at my huge salt intake haha.
Thank you all for your help and guidance. I truly couldn’t of done it without this forum and podcasts. X
