Fast #2!

(Jane Srygley) #1

Hey all! I decided yesterday that maybe the 5:2 idea would be a good one for me, especially since I’m still trying to figure my daily food out. It just feels good to take a break from food choices! So this is my second 24-hour fast. My first was last Friday and went very well. Today I’m fasting from 6pm last night until 6pm tonight. I love turmeric tea and while I love it sweetened, I have to say it’s awesome with salt!!! My guess is I will have several cups of this today along with my water, seltzer and maybe another cup of black coffee… possibly green tea. I’m not putting any sweetener in anything as the biggest thing I want from this is a break from insulin.

I was amazed that I could make it through 24 hours last week. Today I’m not so worried, and it feels good that I know I can eat when I get home around 6pm.

Yes, eating OMAD (One Meal A Day) or simply once a day, is something a lot of folks like to do (including myself) and find to be quite nice indeed. But I also like to keep things mixed up, which helps to keep the body guessing and not get adjusted to any set schedule, which it can and will do. So I sometimes OMAD during weekdays, and do TMAD (Two Meals A Day) on weekends. But I will also throw in TMAD’s once or twice in some weeks, again to keep things mixed up. The main thing is to make sure you eat when you body is telling you to, and simply not to when you’re not hungry. So if you start having any issues, such as headaches, or simply not feeling well, it may just be a sign your body needs substance. (Especially if you’re getting in your electrolytes) But in time this does get easier to recognize and deal with. Most will say that when you get hunger feelings, to give it 15 or 20 minutes and see if it still exist. If not, carry on Fasting. But if so, it might be a good time to eat something.

I have been having headaches for weeks! I do think it’s a bit worse when I fast. I am doing the electrolytes and staying hydrated. I put salt in my tea all day when fasting. I don’t know if it’s because my blood sugar is lower than normal or what but the headaches are really getting old. My first fast was intended to last 32 hours but after 24 I started getting irritable in addition to everything else and my blood sugar was 61 a few hours earlier, so I decided to break my fast and not go longer than 24 hours for the time being.

That’s probably a good call indeed. Fasting shouldn’t be something that causes you to force things, but can exacerbate other things as well. And headaches, whether hunger-headaches, etc. can get worse while Fasting. I was actually eating just OMAD most days before I switched over to Keto, so it wasn’t too bad for me. But if I do start feeling a headache or just overall crappy, I have no issues simply eating something. It’s one of the reasons I don’t put limits on Fast anymore. I just start Fasting, and whether I do 2 day or 5 days, I simply play each one by ear now and simply end the Fast just whenever. … But it does indeed get easier for most folks, the more you do them.
