Family by the ton Show

(Bacon is a many-splendoured thing) #21

In the 1970’s or 1980’s there was an anti-poverty ad campaign in the New York subways that showed an obese family of four, and the headline was something along the lines of “Many malnourished people in America have never missed a meal.” Pasta is cheap—why do you think it became a staple for Italian immigrants to the U.S.?

I was talking about this recently but there are folks who shop for their groceries at the General Dollar Store. You aren’t getting veg there, unless it comes in a can and almost everything is processed and boxed. But it’s super cheap and when you have $40 and need groceries for the week, whadaya gonna do?

We were trying to figure out how much maintaining 700lb costs…probably more than we spend on food.

Dr. Now on my 600lb life recommends low carb high protein. I think being on the show pays for their treatment and therapy.
