Explain body changes without weight loss please

(Maryann ) #1

So I’ve been eating like this for a little less than a month. I haven’t lost any weight at all, not even the water weight people often associate with this woe. But I’m noticing some body composition changes. How does that happen? Is it just a reduction in inflammation? I do not understand how this happens and I’m just trying to understand the science behind that, thanks.

There are so many folks (especially women) who notice great body comp changes on keto, and once they get to their goal size they are at a heavier weight than they expect!

I think that when you’re eating in a way that really fuels the body and you’re improving your health, it’s easier to build lean mass, so you’ll burn some of your fat stores and build more muscle and improve bone density.

Congrats! This is the direction you want to be going

Some can be due to lack of inflammation, but some is due to replacing fat with lean muscle tissue.
Google images of 5lbs fat vs 5lbs muscle and you will see how extreme the size difference can be.

Body composition… Here’s what I look like before and now. 3 months consistent lifting and 2.5 months keto. Same weight

The same volume of muscle and bone weigh more than fat.

5lbs fat vs 5lbs muscle
[/quote] Amazing!

No, they are more dense. 5 pounds of anything is still 5 pounds.

A cubic centimeter of the former outweighs a cubic centimeter of the latter - happy?

(LeeAnn Brooks) #9

Yes. Much happier. Thank you.

Hi Mdellaroc –

With regards to body recomposition, and what it can mean, check this out …

(Maryann ) #11

Ok but due to other health issues I haven’t been working out at all. I have a severe anemia and I get tired doing just every day things. If I increase it by adding exercise I crash very quickly and am down for days. So all I’m doing is Keto.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #12

That’s okay. Exercise is not fundamental to Keto, just beneficial for overall health.

Maybe in time after Keto has worked magic on your body you can add it. Even something as simple as walks are great IF you can manage it. If not, KCKO.

Right, that’s why he specified “volume,” and the statement is correct:
a given volume of muscle weighs more than the same volume of fat.

(from one pedant to another  Carry on…)

It has been edited. The original statement didn’t mention volume.

Ah, got it!
