Expert Advice. The Advice That Nearly Killed Me

(Shawn) #1

WARNING : DO NOT FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF THIS ARTICLE.

I see articles like this almost every day. It makes me sad and really angry that people put advice from so called experts. I wish I knew a way to fight it. Keto saved my life I truely believe that. It has greatly improved my quality of life that is without a doubt.

Her website should be called: “ShesFat.com”.

Not so bad stuff, but maybe occasionally not as a main staple!

(Shawn) #4

Yeah now that I am basically in almost a maintaining mode I could see some of that stuff as a “cheat” meal but not when trying to lose weight or fix diabetes or some other disease.

(Omar) #5

lol

you will find lots of crap like that in the net.

(Todd Allen) #6

… carbs you can eat non-stop without gaining weight, …

:joy:

(Brian) #7

I can’t think of a good reason to take the advice of a journalist for my personal health without something way more substantial than that.

(mis)infotainment.

(Alec) #8

So these “experts” are a cook, a dietician, and 2 health coaches. Errrrr… very clear these folks have simply been mislabelled by the journo.

So, it’s reader beware, we all need a decent BS detector (pun intended!!) to judge what is useful and what is not. Clearly this is not. Anybody with a brain should understand that you can’t eat however much you like of anything without gaining weight. It’s just not sensible.

I did eat them non-stop. I gained weight. Why do you think I went keto, for heaven’s sake? :bacon:

I don’t think that’s such a bad article. Especially for metabolically healthy people that are trying to lose the proverbial 10-15 pounds. It may not be applicable to many folks on this forum, but the truth is we didn’t get metabolically deranged by over consuming fruit, veggies, and oatmeal.

The general population would do well to heed the article’s advice: replace sweet treats with fruit, oatmeal instead of bread or cereal, and quinoa instead of pasta.

I think most in this chain were reacting to the clearly presposterous headline. But you are right that some of the actual statements in the article are reasonable for the average Joe.

The way things are going, who are the average Joe’s - the metabolically healthy or us? :flushed:

Rob
Seems clear that we are either approaching or already over half the population having pre-diabetes. So I have to say you are right. I stand corrected.

I used to eat a lot of low fat yogurt (you know, the stuff FILLED with artificial sweeteners), natural granola (like, wtf does that even mean?!?), fruit salad, whole wheat bread, sugar-free jellies (again, FILLED with artificial sweeteners), skim milk with “healthy” cereal for grown-ups (who the f&$k only eats 3/4 of a cup of cereal? And why is the bowl FULL in the picture, yet mine was practically empty when I ate the “suggested serving size”?), whole grain pasta, etc and ect.

Sounds “healthy,” right?

I the problem was that I would graze like damn antelope all day because I was always freaking hungry. Now I know that I was CONSTANTLY spiking my insulin, which was blocking my body from my fat reserves. And speaking of fat, the only reason I was skinny was because I did 1 - 1.5 hours of high intensity cardio in the morning and 30 - 45 minutes of weight lifting in the afternoon, 5 days a week.

When my youngest was born, I quit going to the gym because, well, sleep.

Guess what happened?

Over the course of a year I blew up like a hot air balloon. And the more fat I got, the more hungry I got. As it turns out, a fat guy can eat A LOT of fruit salad and yourt and granola. Like… A LOT! I was snacking ALL DAY long on Natures Valley thinking to myself, “hey, its Natures Valley, so it has to be good for me, right?”

Moral of the story…

That s$%t isn’t healthy, we’ve all been told lots of lies, don’t trust Uncle Sam to solve this problem and we will ALWAYS live in a NATION OF GRAIN!!

“Amber waves” of it, baby! And don’t forget the “fruited plain.”

(Jay Patten) #16

That’s right!

One of the great things about the internet … much of the advice is worth every cent you paid for it. Price of admission into the world of becoming an expert because you have a web presence is cheap or free. Wonder what would happen if you created a youtube channel dedicated to the health benefits of eating ground cinder block? Open a storefront selling organic, non GMO, ground cinder block and you’re well on your way …
