No no that was a great way to explain. Internally hot. That’s it. Exactly how I feel. But for me it is usually just one or two places that get internally hot.
Experiencing heat waves after meals
Vitamin D is fat soluable which literally means it can be dissolved in fats and oils. Aside from that and the fact that most people can get adequate Vitamin D from sunlight (15-20 minutes per day a few times a week) and have it stored in cells for use as it’s needed, my knowledge of Vitamin D is limited. However, in general, the relationship between all essential minerals is overlapping so a goal to get a wide variety or regular amounts of all them, is probably the best course of action.
Here’s the US government fact sheet on Vitamin D:

Come to think of it, I do believe my therapist said once that it is common to people with depression to also have low level of vitamin D. Maybe that is the cause. Been getting help for depression, but as of today I am of the pills and only do sessions with therapist. So I am not longer down in the black hole, but maybe still not totally out of depression as d vitamin are still low? And what came first, depression or low vitamin D levels? Did depression lead to low levels of vitamin d or did low level of vitamin d lead to depression?
Anyway I look forward to next months blood work, if all this fat, cod liver oil and fatty fish does not help I don’t know what else will.
Stay positive. I’m betting your brain health will improve with LCHF since you are eating foods that lower inflammation and ketones will burn much better in your brain than glucose.
A high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet interferes with serotonin production in the brain, as well as with the production of Vitamin D, which is made from cholesterol. So my speculation would be that both depression and low Vitamin D share the same cause.
It seems that the heat waves are gone now. I don’t know what caused them, if it was m bod adjusting to all the fat or something else but I am happy I don’t have to worry about it anymore.
Even yesterday I kind of ate a little more then I should because I was at a BBQ and the brisket was out of this world. Very fatty, and I also had avocado and sour creme on the side. I also consumed a fatty coffee after the meal just because coconut oil and heavy cream taste so great. And the fatty coffee was my way of having fun while the others had beers and other liquid delights.
Even after such a fatty meal, the portion size and overall fat content I did not have any heat waves. Haven’t had them at least for the past week, but after the BBQ I was kind of anticipating the heat to hit me.
The only thing I’ve done except staying on keto, is I had a couple of fast. I did one 72 hour and one 48 hours. But I can’t recall if the last heat wave was before or after the first fast. So I can’t say that fasting cured it. But it is the only thing I changed.
Might we worth a try if you haven’t done a fast? If it don’t work, at least you still get the benefits from fasting, as well as the mental win of being in control over craving and hunger.
I’ve fasted 48h more times than I can count and 72h a bunch of times (though not in awhile as the closer I get to goal weight the harder it is for me to fast); my postprandial flushes are most severe after I eat a ton after a fast.
Hmm. Sunday before the BBQ I came off a 48 hours fast, shortened to 48 over 72 hrs because of the BBQ. And I was really hungry when I sat down at the BBQ - I ate a ton of fat but still had no heat waves after.
I’ll take that as a confirmation that heat waves are gone now.
