Exercise physiology study (e.g. RMR, VO2max, wingate, etc..)?

I’m curious if anyone has done an exercise physiology study (e.g hydrostatic weighing, VO2max, resting metabolic rate, wingate cycle, etc…)? There is a university near me that performs this testing and I was curious if anyone else has done this.

I believe @tdseest has done every test in existence. hopefully he will chime in

I want to know my VO2max and RMR … so I am looking for someone in Canberra who can do this.

In the US, it is mostly done at universities and in rare occasions, at very high end athletic training centers. I’m not sure if it is the same way there but maybe the University of Canberra might do it?

I might try the Institute of Sport which is … umm I don’t know what the equivalent would be but it’s our elite sport research body. Thanks

ah ok. Good luck and I hope all goes well. I found a university nearby that does the testing so I will be doing that in a couple weeks.

I had a BOD POD test over the summer, the local university has a sports science department. Is this similar to the tests you guys are talking about?

(Rachel Taylor) #8

yep. the BOD POD and underwater weighing are both looking at getting precise body composition (%body fat vs lean muscle) but they go about it in different means (hydrostatic weighing looks at water displacement, and I think BOD POD looks at air displacement). But yeah, that is definitely in the same arena of testing. The VO2max is one where they have you breathe into this tube connected to an instrument and you do something like walking on a treadmill or exercise bike to measure how much oxygen you are consuming. There are some other tests that a lot of places perform (anaerobic threshold, etc…) that are for serious athletes (so not me, lol).

I have done Vo2max (last time was 44) and got one planned in a couple of weeks but Lactate threshold testing is far more important in my sport. of course being keto/fat adapted should mean this is much higher than before
