Erithrytol used like insecticide for berries

I’m not sure in which category this post belongs or if it’s even worthy of discussion, but I am dumbfounded to have just learned that this sweetener may be used to fight a garden pest.

(I haven’t eaten an apple, banana, orange, peach, etc. in over two years, but I ain’t givin’ up my beautiful homegrown raspberries and strawberries.)

And garlic, chocolate, macadamia nuts and avocados are very bad for your dog. Doesn’t mean they’re bad for you.

Just sayin’…

Does for me… Last time I had that stuff, I had hives over 80% of my body!

Oh alright, I’m allergic to it.

Hi, I’m new to practical keto. I thought strawberries were two sugary, how do they affect you? (I know I can just wait until I’m properly keto adapted and grab my glucometer and do some n=1 tests on myself but I’m curious now.

One medium strawberry is about 0.9g of carbs, 0.2 of which is dietary fiber. I wouldn’t eat a million of them but a few sometimes wouldn’t be bad.

Powdered (icing) sugar is being used to rid bees of Varroa ticks that are contributing to colony die off. Sprinkle it in the hive, the bees lick/groom each other clean, knocking off the ticks because the powder prevents the ticks from holding on to the bee like normal so they fall to the bottom of the hive… plus the bees get a sugar rush?

I hope we don’t end up with diabetic bees… filed under “off scrip uses for sweet things”

Rob, there is a pretty good case to be made that our (human) focus on monoculture and maximum transient profitablility from a given land area is very harmful to the bees, who are thus subjected to a very limited source of nutrients, and then we add to the fact by often taking the honey out and replacing it with processed sugar.

I wouldn’t be too worried about what Erithrytol is also used for. As an example, Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) can also be used as a weedkiller, or used to remove stains and odors from floors and carpets. But, we know ACV can be very helpful, too.

I don’t think I’ll be up nights worrying about bees getting diabetes either.

Thinking of getting some bees, not so much for honey but more for pollination of my gardens and small fruits.

Maybe I’d take a little honey. We probably use a quart or so over the course of a year. I know, not so keto friendly.
