Episode #56 - Sitting Down with Gary Fettke (Part 1 of 2)

(carl) #1

While at the Low-Carb Breckenridge conference in Colorado in February, 2017, Carl Franklin and Richard Morris got the chance to sit down and talk to Dr. Gary Fettke, the now famous (or is it infamous) orthopedic surgeon from Tasmania who has been silenced by the AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) for having the tenacity to tell his diabetes patients to eat a low-carbohydrate diet so they might avoid him having to amputate their limbs - which he does all too often. This is the first time Gary has spoken out on a podcast since the AHPRA informed him he was not qualified to give nutritional advice to his patients. This is part one of a two-part conversation to be continued next week.

Holy crap, @Richard has hair!

Looking forward to listening to this during my commute tomorrow. This man is a great Australian who has been treated disgracefully by AHPRA. To me he represents what is good and right with human beings & AHPRA represents the polar opposite. I’ll stop now as it all just makes me so angry. It was an article about diabetic amputees, my fear of this outcome & some of Gary Fettke’s writing that helped get me on the right path, LCHF & Keto.

I listened to this travelling home today. Gary is articulate and I was so absorbed in the conversation that I couldn’t believe it when it finished! I am HANGING for next week!! Great episode dudes!!

Oh wow!, what a podcast.

One thing I picked up on was @nofructose calling LCHF “Low Carb HEALTHY Fat”. I LOVE that ! it’s a subtle one-word change, but one that I think bring s a whole new level of credibility to this WOE that might just lower resistance to some lurkers who don’t want to eat “a lot of” fat.

What do you think? Vote now !

  • Love it - Low Carb Healthy Fat it is !
  • Shut up - it’s Low Carb High Fat, just accept it.

I noticed that as well. My only concern with labeling it healthy fat (even though that is exactly what it is), is that too many people think healthy fats are processed vegetable oils. Whenever I use the term healthy fat, I feel like I always have to qualify what I mean.

Whatever works.

I think of it as Low Carb Helluvalotta Fat

I’m not changing the poll

Low Carb, Hello Fat!

(Cathy Schroder) #14

Oh no! Still SIX more days to go… Too long!

(Peter Bursky) #15

Certainly for those people having concerns, this is probably a more acceptable description.

Very valid point by @i960!

Whichever it is though, deep down we all know it’s …

Still five…

I assume that there was a different recording setup giving the remote show, but Richard sounded completely different to me from his home setup. I found his sound a lot … softer? Warmer? Not sure how to describe it.
